Hi DVCers!
We are staying in a VWL 1BR studio in September. We are not DVC members, we booked our stay through a TA and chose a DVC resort specifically so we would have room for my DM and DS. This will be our (at the time of our vacation) 13 month old son's first WDW trip and my mom will be coming along for a much-needed vacation. When we check in will I be able to request a room as we can when checking in at regular resorts? Given that we will be carting a little guy, stroller, and his gear should we ask for a room near the bus stop and the path to the boat dock (if this is even possible)? Are the upper floors better for views? Anyone have room numbers to suggest?

And finally, just dreaming, but is anyone ever fortunate enough to be upgraded to a 2BR? Mom is young, active and healthy but I still feel pretty guilty about her having to couch camp. How are the pull-out sofas in terms of comfort?

Thanks in advance!

Being upgraded from a 1bdr to a 2bdr is probably possible...if you have the points available and if a 2bdr is available. The point diff is just too great for DVC to allow upgrades without paying the extra points.

I'm not sure that there is a room that is both close to the bus stop and close to the boat dock. If you ask for a room close to the main entrance then you will be close to the buses and closer to the boat dock than a room at the far end of the building. Keep in mind that by just being at the VWL you are as far from the boat dock as you could be, but comparing a long walk at VWL to a long walk at SSR or OKW is like comparing apples and oranges. VWL is a small compact "vertical" resort so any walk is a short walk, while SSR or OKW are large spreadout "horizontal" resorts so the walks tend to be much longer.

Room numbers usually don't work so well. You're better off requesting view.

In your case, I would request quiet pool view, close to the elevators. The elevators are close to the doors so you'd get the shortest walking distance to anywhere really.

Because you booked through a TA, it's theoretically possible that you could get an upgrade - I wouldn't bank on it though.

Have fun :sunny:
