We will be making our third trip home to VWL on January 11th. We have never tried any of the restaurants in the resort, but are wanting to try Whispering Canyon one night. Do you need a PS for that place? Is it fun?

Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Laura

You probably don't NEED a PS for Whispering Canyon in January. However, to ensure getting seated at the time you prefer, it's a good idea to make a PS. They are easy to make (and cancel) from your room/villa or from resort's Guest Services Desk. We often make same day PS arrangements for dinner before we leave the resort for the day. We've been very successful in getting the times we prefer, but we do travel in the "off season". I doubt you will have a problem in January.

Can't really answer your "fun" question - we've only walked by the restaurant. FWIW, the diners seemed to be having lots of fun.

Enjoy your trip!

It is fun. The more you interact with the CM the more fun you have! Food is really good also!

Whether you need it or not, be sure to ask for some ketchup - not to give it away, but it is fun!

We just got back 2 weeks ago from VWL. We ate dinner ant WCC 1st night and had a ball. Most reviews I ever read were negative about food but we found it to be very good. Best advice, go very hungry, I think that will help. We ate the all u can eat deal where they bring it to the middle of the table. The BBQ and chicken were both very good and we reordered both of those twice. The ribs we didnt really eat much of nor the sausages.

If you have ever been to 50s PTC, I would compare the atmosphere to that with a western theme. Its a real hoot! Just go with an open mind and be willing to play along no matter what. And definitely ask for the ketchup. Bring the camera. Have fun!

In regards to PS, we called for them, it was going to be 1 hr 30 mins before we could be seated and we were starved. I told DW that they didnt look very crowded 30 mins before so lets see if we can get seated. We were seated as soon as we got there. Breakfast was good also but a few more people then and we waited maybe 20 mins, but it was raining veryy hard that morning so not many people heading to the parks yet. I think that was main reason it was more people eating there that morning.

Laura....Whispering Canyon puts the focus on rollicking fun....don't expect a quiet meal there!

There are several cues that will make the waiters supposedly do certain things...but I hesitate to repeat any of them because I've heard people complain that the waiters didn't "respond properly" to them!

In addition to asking for ketchup, it's always fun to wear a Universal Studios shirt or Sea World cap in there...they seem to enjoy that.;)

And without any particular provocation, they had my DD9 stand on her chair and lead the entire restaurant in the Hokey Pokey!

If you have kids, give it a whirl. It's something you should try at least once, I believe.

Hmmmmm......

I'll take the risk of being slammed here and post my opinion, and it is ONLY my opinion, I do not expect you to agree.

First, it is a noisey, distracting place to eat. Don't expect to be able to carry a quiet conversation among your family. The jokes and pranks the CMs pull quickly grow tiresome and a nusance. Near the end of the meal, I couldn't wait to pay and get the heck out of there.

Frankly, we try to teach our kids to behave at dinnertime, and not carry on (as the CMs are doing)...... I feel this type of interactive meal conflicts with our values, and sends the wrong message to the children 'that is OK to act loud, obnoxious and ill mannered, as it is presented as cute, funny and entertaining', which I believe it is not.

Second, it is an "all you can eat" meal, that is NOT a buffet. That said, if you order seconds, expect to wait a while (a good 10 minutes) before receiving it.

Third, in my opinion, considering atmosphere, service, and quality I believe it is expensive. If you are willing to take a short boat ride over to Fort Wilderness's Trails End Buffet, it is a far better value for the money (and you help yourself to seconds which is far quicker).

Money isn't my only concern when I rate a resteraunt, and I DO give HIGH points to Artist Point. Yes it is pricey, but excellent service, great atmosphere, and the food and presentation of it is impeccable.

In summary, we walked away from Whispering Canyon with a $90 dolar bill and felt very disappointed. When we got home we received a post card asking us to go on line and fill out a survey. We expressed a similar opinion on Whispering Canyon on the survey too.

It used to be a better value, and I noted a few years ago when their dinner (especially dinner) prices went up beyond what I felt was worthwhile.

Besides, we shouldn't be eating all we can eat. :)

Besides, we shouldn't be eating all we can eat.

I agree !!!.......... 'I' and my wife shouldn't eat all we can eat....

However, anyone with two growing boys know......you get your monies worth at an all you can eat buffet.

Best of both worlds -- If they're old enough for WC to be worth it, then perhaps that's a good night to send them to the restaurant themselves, while you and the wife have a romantic dinner at Artist Point! :)

We ate here Saturday night. It was so much fun. The food is just ok. We had 2 tables, one for the adults and one for the teens/twenties. The kids loved it - they participated in the horse race with the little kids and laughed the whole night. We would definitely go back!!!

On the other hand, the food at AP was great - but that place is too stuffy for our crowd.

We ate breakfast at WC on Christmas Day. They have an all you can eat skillet breakfast that my DH ordered. My 5 year old twins really enjoyed the restaurant. My youngest dropped her fork on the floor and the waitress bought her a giant wooden fork as a replacement. She guarded that wooden fork throughout breakfast. It's a fun restaurant and great if you have little ones.

Thanks everyone for your responses!!

We will make PS's the morning we want to go (for dinner). I am expecting--and hoping--for a little "fun" during dinner--one of the many things that makes Disney fun for all of us. Fortunately our kids know that what goes on at dinner at Disney is not always the "norm" and that it is just one more way things are "different" and therefore special at Disney. And we LOVE it that way!

Looking forward to some fun. And with the way our 4 yo DD goes through ketchup, I KNOW we'll be asking for some. It's a "must have" with any meat for her.

Thanks again.

Laura
