VWL and Copper Creek. Will they combine?

This is crazy. So two different DVC options at the same resort. What will make the converted DVC rooms more appealing than the original? Didn't the existing DVC building just go through refurb? I thought this would better my chances of ever staying at VWL but now it doesn't seem so. Forget about ever getting into the beachside bungalows--and two waitlists to even have a chance at BRV or CCV?

Hard to say. They may be bigger. The rooms are in the main Lodge, which may appeal (see also: Jambo vs. Kidani, in miniature). The points will be available direct and go to 2060+, which is a limiter for some -- some people have drank the direct-purchase Kool Aid, and some people don't want to buy a 2042 resort.

The new resort is undoubtedly going to be costlier per-night for points. I can't come up with a single credible way it's not, given Disney's tendencies in recent years.

It is what it is, Disney builds DVC resorts to make tons of money, not to make members happy. Many will buy not even knowing the difference between the resorts, they want new, they want to use their points all over the world, they don't want a restricted membership, they want to belong.

It's not uncommon in the timeshare world. Marriott has one property that used to have 5 separate legal resort entities in Vail. Then when the HOA for part of the properties refused to keep them up to Marriott standards (Marriott's version), part of them parted ways with Marriott and now it's 2 non Marriott and 3 Marriott on the same property. Likely a more strange issue is Jambo and Kidani or THV/SSR being one resort.

The new rooms will be nicer, more up-to-date. While the classic VWL did recently go through a refurb, most will tell you (raising my hand) that the refurb wasn't entirely successful. The rooms were cleaned up a bit and modernized, but they were done blandly and a bit on the cheap. I doubt CCCCCCCCVVVVVVV will have such mediocrity. As for the cabins, I feel quite certain that unless one is willing to pony up huge bucks for a huge contract, a stay in said cabins will be beyond the grasp of most new owners outside of a day or two at some point just to try them out.

Odd - but it HAD to be done this way....

You see, We have a CONTRACT for the VWL. That CONTRACT has a property description, covering what we must pay for. The trouble with CONTRACTS? They may not be unilaterally changed. When that sort of thing is attempted? People sue.

Now - that does not stop one party from making an OFFER to alter a contract :). Gotta read carefully - but the ASSOCIATION may even have the right to accept changes on behalf of all members....

Just a GUESS on my part (no facts).... given the expiration date of the original VWL contract? And all the GRIEF (and money) that would be involved? My prediction (GUESS) - WDW will wait. When the original VWL contracts expire? There will be a refurb, and combination. In doing this, I think WDW has been fairly wise - consider: what IS the end game for ANY DVC site expiring? WDW MAY be thinking about this.... it's getting closer.

all personal opinion - I'm not right, you aren't wrong.

They could have added it to the current project but from a practical standpoint they would have had to extend the current resort first or at the same time. Financially speaking it would have diluted the value and limited the options. Look for a Poly like points structure for the new resort, likely just a little less for comparable "views".

I own at the original vwl. I actually prefer to be in the main 'hotel' area. While I am not in a position to add in the new option to secure these, I am hoping they offer at least studios at a reasonable point per night cost.

I'm one who is glad they are separate. Now the question is will MF's increase more than the average due to the remodel?

Maint costs should have been factored in to the capital reserves. Usually you get an out of proportion increase or special assessment when there is an issue like having to do it early, unexpected damages or a significant upgrade in quality or amenities. DVC in general is high IMO.

I think every current VWL owner should be given a free night in the new cabins to help ease the pain of the mess we have had and will continue to have to endure for the next year or so.

I've stayed at both and enjoy both. As for the points, I suspect they'll be in line with PVB studios, a point or two less perhaps. The cabins are an unknown, but early photos of the footprint of what appears to be a cabin suggests--only suggests--that they'll be 3BRs. Obviously, that hasn't been confirmed and is just conjecture, but if true, I suspect the point costs to stay in one of those will approach the Bungalow level of PVB.

haha - nice idea!
