I was thinking about renting from vrbo. Have you done so and how to see it it is for real. Any suggestions of prior houses/ condos would be great to!

Please note, you're not renting from VRBO.com. It's just an ad site..you're renting directly from the owners who advertise on vrbo (the biggest rentals site by owner there is in fact).

We've rented from them tons of times..in Disney area, Colorado, Fort Myers, and other places. If you do a search on these forums for some of my previous posts you will find a very long winded dissertation on how to rent from VRBO owners, good advice for getting the best deals, and also ways to verify ownership of the properties. (I'm not going to retype the 2-3 pages here..hehe..sorry!).

If you go to the reviews boards you will find reviews from other DISboard members of various places they've stayed (including reviews of places we've stayed too!). VRBO is unfortunately not the best website to navigate.

If you need more specific advice please feel free to PM or email me, I think the issue you're going to have though in your case is your budget and timeframe (under $100 on Thanksgiving with pool heat).

It's best to start with the size of the place you need...in bedrooms. Most of the online sites break it down this way.

Next, narrow it down to a resort in the area...in a prior post I listed a resort map for you. Go on the DIS and do some searches on the resorts themselves....for instance.. we're in Windsor Hills Resort and it's awesome...but to keep the costs down closer to your budget you're going to have to really widen your search and distance from the parks (at least I think so, I could be wrong though!).... once you've narrowed it down some then you can start sending out inquiries to owners and getting quotes....you still have time so you can send out dozens and see what kind of rates you get back.

If you do your homework you and you're early (which you are) then you should still be able to get a good deal. There are tons of housing options, and many owners don't honestly market themselves very well, meaning their places sit empty, and are "hungry" for bookings.
