VRBO Question

We are in the planning phase for a trip to the Canadian Rockies next summer.
I have found several properties with availibility that I really like.
I though I would ask here because I know many of you have experience with VBRO vacation rentals.
I guess what I am wondering is do I bite the bullet and pay full week rental cost now (almost a year out) to get exactly what I want?
OR, as my husband was suggesting, do I wait until we are a month or so away and book then because prices will begin to lower and discounts may be available at that time?

To be honest, there is quite a few rentals, as it is a condo type vacation town. BUT our dates in August are high season. I am not expecting prices to come down much, if at all, and I am afraid there will be nothing left if we wait.
I have found one that is 1000 for 7 nights, with a hottub on the roof, a full kitchen, and more than enough space for us in a prime area. I love it. It's already 300 or so less than many in the area.

So, do you wait and see for your vacation rentals or jump on a place as soon as you find the right one?

When i find something we like and i'm happy with the price, i book it. I do try to stop my self from price shopping as our vacation gets nearer

I had been thinking of that too! If I book it, then it's time to start planning the itenary and rental car price shopping.. NO looking at places to stay after I book

We have always had good luck using VRBO and the prices stay pretty much the same at the really nice, well priced homes. If they are priced well there is no need to discount during the high season.

what part of canadian rockies? banff?? if you wish to stay in banff you need to at least book a year ahead.....

We have used VRBO multiple times and never had to pay the whole thing upfront. Usually, the owner ahs asked for a deposit up to maybe half the price with the balamce due 60 days before you go.

Check with different owners, they may be able to work with you.

We used to always book early, but this summer I waited to book our vacation along the gulf coast and it was a huge savings!! I will never book early any more! There are so many properties and someone always offering a discount for last minute rentals.

I would book it. If you are staying a week you want to be comfortable. You would get $100 to $200 off if you wait, but I wouldn't think it was worth it.

I've rented from VRBO a few times and have never had to have the full price upfront either just a deposit...........

to your ? but it really depends according to how bad you want the one you are eyeing.......otherwise my mom and I have gotten AWESOME prices on last minute deals, last year I saved $300 on a 4th of July week condo on the beach that I booked 7 months out!, and my mom has saved over $500+ booking a month out.......what we both did was just email all the condo owners that we had interest in and asked if they'd take XXX amount for their condo, we've always had someone bite

I would book it. To me the savings, which in high season in the Rockies would be minimal, and the money I saved would not be worth the stress of waiting until the last minute. I have used VBRO several times, and have never paid the entire cost upfront. Usually just a deposit, then the rest a month or so out.

Remember, location is everything. If you love where it is, and the place is what you want for the amount of money you planned.....book it now.

I'm sorry if my post was unclear in some way. The owner only wants a deposit now. I wasn't worried about how to pay that, just wondering if we would see better prices if we waited a few months. I can see how my wording was confusing.
