VRBO Homeaway home rental guarantee

Apparently this is something new: HomeAway Rent with Confidence Guarantee.

Look at the top of that website and you'll see all the company rental sites that fall under the HomeAway blanket like VRBO, Great Rentals, A 1 Vacations, CyberRental etc.
"The HomeAway Rent with Confidence Guarantee provides travelers protection (and peace of mind) by guaranteeing up to $5,000 of a traveler's payment in the event the listing is determined not to be legitimate in accordance with our policy." It's free but you have to register you're rental within 7 days of first payment.
I've never done it and only happened on the web page by chance. Has anyone done it or been aware of it ? Or do you have an opinion about it ? It's too late for us to do it this time but it might be something to keep in mind.

It covers you if the home does not exist or you cannot gain access to it because it is not a legitimately listed home.If the sites involved verified the ownership when a home was listed they probably wouldn't need to do this .It does not cover any disputes.Does this mean they have had cases of scamming going on by people listing homes they do not own?

I guess it would give people that were nervous about renting from owners a little peace of mind knowing that they were covered for this. It might not mean that they've had scamming cases already, it could mean that they've had none so therefore they can offer this knowing there's little chance of having to shell out any money to cover it. ??

Thanks for posting this. We will be staying at Grand Palms for 2 weeks in 2008 and I haven't made payment yet so I will definately register as soon as I have made payment. Although a fellow DISer has given us an excellent reference so I am not overly concerned, but it will be nice to have an extra base covered.
