I'm dying to do a vow renewal at Disney....but here are my thoughts....short of winning the lottery I would need to do it on a small scale which in its' self isn't bad...but my question has to do with the date...

I have a November anniversary....if I do a renewal I would love to do it on my actual anniversary but in a few years my dd and ds's will be in High school.....

Question..??? How important is doing a renewal on your actual date vs doing a renewal in disney????

Should I give up the date which would be difficult to pull the kids out of school for for the celebration at a more convient time of year????

I think you need to decide what is more important to you for the vow renewal. Renewing your vows on your wedding anniversary or doing it at Disney. If you don't mind doing it at another time without taking the kids out of school, Disney will make your dreams come true. But, for your two children being in highschool, November is usually a good time to vacation. It is before final exams for that semester but after the due dates of most major assignments (or at least that is how it is in Ontario, where I am from). Also, many teachers will give kids special assignments, that can easily be done on the trip down and back, to make up for the work they will be missing, especially if the trip is for a special occasion. Personally, I would go for the vow renewal at Disney on your wedding anniversary, but that's just me. I know your kids would probably love to be out of school for a week at Disney! It will be beautiful no matter what you choose!

We are renewing our wedding vows next June. Our anniversary isn't until the beginning of September, but my daughter is in Jr. High and then frown heavily on taking vacations during the school year there. We'd love to do it on our anniversary, but it just isn't possible and we really want it at Disney.

My VR is next August but our date is in September..about 3 weeks later...

I think renewing your vows is more about yoru love than the actual date. If it could be the same date then all the more magical but i don't think it is necessary.

(i think i'm giving out too much information towards my real identity)

We are getting married Sept 8 and my brother is a freshman is high school he will be missing a week of school and they are just having him make up the work, no one gave my parents a hard time about it. Although he is not happy about having to write a 5 pg paper on Walt Disney as his english make up, but he is really excited about the wedding. Have it when you want, it's your day!

My husband has had the same type of question reguarding our vow renewal. Our anniversary is New Years eve and we are renewing our vows on Dec. 20 at Leu Gardens in orlando then a Disney vacation with 25 family members. His question is what anniversary do we celebrate. Of course to be obnoxious I said both. What do you think? I still say that we celebrate new years eve. But back to the post. I say renewing you love for each other should be done at anytime you can.

Our anniversary is in October, but I originally wanted to be a May bride, so we did our renewal this past May. It wasn't even a milestone anniversary, but we've had so much tragedy in our lives the past few years that we didn't want to wait. Rev. Day got a big kick out of saying "27 and a half years"! To us the date didn't matter as much as doing it at Disney World!

zurgswife- I sympathize with you on this one. My disney wedding was held on May 3rd of 2003 and my husband and I wanted to have a VR after 2 years which would be May 3rd 2005 and we definatley wanted to keep it on our Anniversary day, however my daughter will be at that time at the end of the school year from 8th grade and finals at that time would be abundant. She attends a private school and the work load is quite intense so it has made us think a bit.

Once middle school does hit it definately is harder to take them out for vacation. I did this to my daughter for our wedding, she was in 6th grade at the time and missed 7 full days of school. I will tell you that it really was hard for her when she returned. She was up till all hours of the night trying to finish the work she missed. (Her private school does not allow the Middle school students to take work with them if they take time of for vacation.)

You definately should speak to the Head of school or the teacher she/he will have and let them know the month that you are wanting to do this to see if this would hurt the child as far as work load goes. They basically know what is going on with the cirriculum for the coarse of the year so they can give you an idea how busy it will be for the children at the time of the year you are looking at. At the time I left for my wedding the children were getting notes and refreshing chapters for final exams. So my daughter had to rely on good friends to lend notes and me to review chapters with her. Not to mention the hw that was missed.

We feel the Anniversary date of our Wedding is definately the day we want our VR done. It would just make it really special to be getting our Vow Renewed on our Anniversary day. So we are going to wait until our daughter is in the clear with school. If we have to wait until our wedding day of May 3rd falls on a Sat or Sun again, then so be it. At least we will be a family when we are renewing our vow, just like when we made them.
However many people probably due to these same reasons have the VR done on a different date than thier wedding day and state it is just as Magical.

My daughters education is too important at this time of her life to be taking her out of school right now and we feel strongly about having the VR on our Anniversary date. So we will wait.
Its not like we dont go to Disney every year because we do! Once in April, (use to be May, because of middle school its april now) and then again sometimes in Dec.

Good luck with your decision whatever you chose I'm sure it will be the right thing for you and your family.

Thanks for the thoughts but I'm remembering our High School is Block scheduleing meaning they do an entire years work in like one term...1 week is about 2-3 in there school...

jessiangel, peter1706, Janis---- Thanks for sharing your experiences...I think having a VR with family there is more important then the actual date.

I totally agree with you...:):):)

Once middle school does hit it definately is harder to take them out for vacation.

Fortunately for us our school goes from 8th grade (elem) to 9th high school...So, this year for my dd's last year in elem school we are taking the kids out in Dec. but like I mentioned before I just realized that high school is still block scheduleing which would prohibit taking them out....
