We were going to do a vow renewal for our 10th anniversary this past march, but our home burnt in sept. 06 so we cancelled it. My wedding rings were in my jewelry box because they needed repaired so I lost them in the fire. We have been looking at new rings and dh wants to give them to me in a very special way so we've been talking about going forward with plans for a vow renewal even though it would not be a benchmark year.
We have two delimas, first is that the high school does not excuse days missed for vacation so if dd misses more than 5 days she has redo all those courses. The second delima is that our anniversary is on a saturday. That leaves out doing an escape and make you pay higher minimums on wishes. ( is that the correct names now? they were intimate and custom before.)
To solve delima #1 we could do our vow renewal in may, which is the anniversary of how long we've been together, but that day is on a sunday.

So I'm started to feel that maybe it doesn't really matter what the date is of the vow renewal. All that matters is that it is special and meaningful to us. What are your opinions?

I'm so sorry about your house!:grouphug:

You know, I think you are right about just picking a date that works best for you. It will become special in the years to come because the two of you (and your family) will have MADE it special. It will be another day you can celebrate for the rest of your lives (and we all need more of those, right?;) )

But, you know, I have heard of some brides having Escape (intimate) weddings on Saturdays. You may want to confirm that with Disney to be sure.

My husband and I were married on May 28, 1988 and we are doing our VR on June 26, 2008 because we have kids in school and some of our guests have kids in school - this way I get to celebrate twice!

I don't think the exact date is as important as the meaning behind the ceremony. It'll be more important to make sure the date works for your family.

Congrats to you on 10 years!

My DH and I are planning a VR for our 25th year of marriage in 2009. Our actual anniversary date is 16 January, but we too have kids in school and we've decided to wait until April 2009 so they will be on Easter school vacation. I agree with everyone else that the actual date isn't as important as the meaning behind the ceremony!

I think hiwaygal is right about the Saturday weddings - I think it's only restricted to Monday - Thursday if you are planning on the Wedding Pavilion for the ceremony. Your best bet is to give DFTW a call and ask! :flower3:

Let us know how you get on!

We are having our VR on July 8th 2008, our anniversary is Jan 4th! We will have been married 16 years but we have a different reson for our VR. My DH leaves the Royal Navy in May 2008 after 22 years service so we are looking at it as the start of our second (new, non forces) Life together.

I don't think it matters what date you choose, it will always be special day to you both!

We still celebrate 3 anniversaries: October 11, 1996 (the day we met), April 12, 1997 (the day we "spiritually" married each other) and May 30, 1998 (the day we actually got married). We acknowledge our anniversaries on the exact day, but with three kids, we celebrate them whenever we can get grandparents to babysit. Next year our wedding anniversary falls on a Friday, so we're doing it the following Wednesday, June 4. Although we're a pretty sentimental couple, we're also VERY practical. We chose it because the kids will be out of school and it's not high season yet. I think we would enjoy the vow renewal no matter what day it fell on because it's the concept that is more important than the day, ya know what I mean?

I wish you the best of luck with both your house and your vow renewal!

Jil

I think it's not the date that matters, it's the meaning behind the event. Our wedding date was May 28, 1988, we will be celebrating our "20 Years of Happily Ever After" on November 24, 2008 at Disney, with a VR blowout! (it won't be quite as cool as Janet2K's but that was way cool. (love the TR Janet))

So really it's not the date so much as the meaning to the event. I say celebrate each other everyday...that's how you get to celebrate 20 years, and more!

We are planning a DFTVR for our 20th( an escape). our wedding date falls on a wed. so it could work we might have that but if not like everyone else said I think it more of the meaning behind it than the actual date.

Fun2bmomof3, everyone here has given you good advice. It's your anniversary and you can honestly celebrate it whenever you choose -- even if that date has to fall somewhere else within the calendar year due to real life reasons (school, work, illness, conflict of interest, etc.).

When I first began looking into having a FTW vow renewal, I think it was in 1999. That was around my 15th anniversary. Life got in the way, and so I looked at doing it for my 16th anniversary. Life got in the way, and so I looked at doing it for my 17th anniversary. Life got in the way...and you know the rest.

When my 20th was approaching, I decided to damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. And then my husband lost his job. Yikes! We eventually decided to keep our FTW ship on-course and went on to have a wonderful vow renewal.

I really wanted to have our vow renewal on Halloween since that is the date that we first met and the date that I had originally wanted us to get married on. So when it came time to plan our vow renewal, I wanted the 31st. But since we were going to have a small guest list and wanted to stay within the "intimate" cateogry, I picked our real anniversary date of the 27th since it fell on a Wednesday.

As I planned our vow renewal, we wound up moving into the "custom" category. I seriously considered switching our date to the 31st, but by that point in time, I had five hotel rooms booked for my family to use and everyone's vacations had already been planned around the date of the 27th. *grumble* *grumble* And so I had to stick with the date that my heart really didn't want AND THAT DATE WAS MY ACTUAL ANNIVERSARY DATE, go figure!

I guess what I'm trying to tell you is that real life always seems to get in the way of the best-laid plans. But what's important is that you'll have your loved ones around you as you renew your wedding vows with the man of your dreams. You can't ask for anything more. So pick a date that works best with everyone's schedules. The more folks who can attend your vow renewal, the merrier it will be. ;)

Congrats on your upcoming wedding anniversary. I wish you many more years of happiness.

Thanks everybody for the reassurance. I think we'll plan something for around end of may/first of june. Thank you for the wishes with the house. It has been a long hard year, but the house is rebuilt and better than ever. We are happy to be home.
Janet, I know what you mean about life getting in the way. That happened when we wanted to get married. It took five years from the time we moved in together and feel we were married in our hearts till when we legally said I do. So usually when people ask how long we've been married I say 15years instead of 10. Only family really know the difference anyway.

Thank all of you again. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated as we plan.

We got married on Sat. July 15, 1995
Our VR was Thursday July 14th 2005 so we could use the WP

Fun2bmomof3, well, it sounds like you have a couple of "anniversary" dates to choose from. You lucky girl!

Please do keep us posted. I'm hopeful that you'll choose to renew your vows with Disney. It will be fun for me to watch another couple plan their wedding anniversary. ;)
