I hope you all don't mind my asking so many questions.

Which Von's do you order from for delivery to DL? How far in advance can you place your order? Can I use my Safeway rewards card? Do I need to let the hotel know ahead of time if I need to have my order held for me?

Thanks!

I'm sorry, you've reached your question quota of the day. LOL Just kidding..I don't order groceries, we just go to Target when we get in but from what I've read yes, you should let the hotel know so they are expecting it. :)

We just got back from our DL trip a week ago, and had groceries delivered from Albertson's. We alerted the front desk when we checked in, and they told us we needed to be in the room (or, close enough around the premises) to accept the delivery when it arrived. I left my cell number at the time I placed the online order. At the Disneyland Hotel, the delivery guy brought our food to the Bell Desk outside and the Bell Captain called me when it got there. It just so happens that I was standing right around the corner shopping when she called me! He waited with the food, so I'm guessing if they weren't able to contact me, they might've just taken the food back; I'm not positive. I signed for the food and brought it up to my room. Everything was there, in great condition (nothing smashed or missing). I'd heard not-so-good stories about Von's, so I wisely went with Albertson's. Yes, there is a delivery charge ($12.95, I think), but it was better than trying to get a minimum $50 order from Von's and possibly having food missing.

We had our groceries delivered to our hotel on our last trip on the second week of October. I had to have default address go to the hotel. All I had to do was give the reservation name in the special delivery description and let the lobby know that groceries will be delivered to the hotel.

A warning though, NONE of our refrigerated items got delivered and they "reinbursed" me, but not on my debit card. So I have mixed reviews about Vons.

Hey girl!

It was specifically because of your experience that I decided against using Von's! The only advantage with Von's is that the food is actually from Safeway and, therefore, they had a much bigger selection... and the food was cheaper than Albertson's. So much cheaper, in fact, that I couldn't even make the $50 minimum order, so it was either order more food (for only 5 days? not an option), or use Albertson's. I was very, very pleased with both their food and their service.

Yeah, we just used the hotel's address as the default address, and give your check-in name and contact number when you order. It really did save us a lot of money, and gave us an excuse to go back and rest.

I'm thinking of using Albertson's for this next trip. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews with Vons too (Jasmine, yours being one of them!).

We're staying at the Hojo and will be having a fridge and micro and decided on just saving some money and bringing our own breakfast and some lunches since we've eaten through the parks 4 times over.

How ealy do we need to place our order?

I've done both-- we did Albertsons when we stayed at GCH in March, and Vons when we stayed at HoJo 3 weeks ago.

We never had to sign for the groceries; the hotel took delivery and it seemed to be standard procedure. I think it depends on the hotel. I got the impression that the grocery store sort of thought you needed to sign personally, but the hotel just grabs the clip board and says, "Gimme that" and signs for you. :confused3

I liked Albertsons the first time because they had no minimum purchase amount. When I tried to order from them this last time, their website had changed and the selection was drastically reduced. Like, I could NOT find any cereal/breakfast related items. I looked and looked.

So this time I went with Vons, and I had NO problems. I had to make up about $10.00 to get to the $50 minimum, but I just ordered some small non-perishable delicacies that came home with me in the suitcase... and were put to good use at home. You can use your Safeway card, but you don't need to, because they give you the same deals for ordering online. There is a delivery charge-- I think it's $12.95?-- but for your first delivery you can use a discount code for free delivery. I believe the current one is easy7.

You can order up until 10 p.m. the night before, though you might want to do it a week or two out, just to be sure you can get a spot on the truck for the delivery time you want. I think the delivery times are in increments of 1-1/2 hours.

We had muffins, yogurt, juice, milk, a 24 pack of bottled water (which we used up completely, just the 2 of us! The tap water is gross!), mini cereal boxes, cheese sticks, crackers, chips, apples and bananas... hmm.. a pack of paper towels, a pack of plastic utensils and a pack of plastic bowls.

In both cases, I called the hotel beforehand to let them know that the groceries were coming, and it was no problem.

In the case of HoJo, the front desk wasn't, like, crazy busy, and we got there at 2:00, an hour too early to check into our room, and we wanted to go to the parks. So I asked them very nicely if they might be able to put our groceries in our room, putting away the refrigerated items in the fridge for us. Our groceries came between 3 and 4:30, and HoJo put them away for us. So very kind!

At GCH, the groceries arrived about an hour before we did, and they held them at the bell desk for us. I was all ready to be worried about stuff going bad, but they were so tightly packed in a cardboard box that they were all still quite chilly.

OK, now that I've written an encyclopedia.. sheesh! Hope that helps. :)

You just go to albertsons.com or vons.com, and the deliveries come from whichever store is closest, you don't have to worry about picking which store, just put in the address for your hotel.

We had deliveries from Vons 2 times, once to the DLH, which we were out enjoying the parks when everything arrived. I told the bell captain before we left that we were expecting an order. When we got back to our room we received everything from the bell desk about 5 minutes after I let them know we were back. And the order was perfect.

The second trip, we stayed at the GCH and same story as above, the difference is the DLH told us they had no refrigerator to hold our stuff (thankfully it was only about an hour that the groceries weren't cold)... but the nice cm at the GCH put our items in refrigeration for us behind the check-in area somewhere. We alerted the bell captain when we got back to our room, and they delivered our items to our room, but then we noticed the refrigerated items were not there, 1 more phone call to the front desk, and they located those items and brought them up.

SO, we loved Vons, and had no problems meeting the $50 minimum, and actually had free delivery codes both times. It was perfect.
