Volunteer work/Silver Cord Program

Are any of you high schoolers here doing volunteer work in hopes of getting the Silver Cord at graduation?

My school's website lists some examples of volunteer work, most of which revolves around church and church activities. I'm not religious, so I've tried to find other ways to volunteer.

I wanted to volunteer at the Humane Society, but you need to be 18 to volunteer there. I looked at other local animal shelters but you also need to be 18 to volunteer there.

So, what sorts of things do you volunteer for?

I've never heard of the Silver Cord

We don't have any silver cord system. You either get the standard cord or, if you're in NHS, you can order the NHS cord to wear along with the standard one for like 75 dollars.

I volunteer at the local Animal Shelter. We have a teen program there. Its really fun and I love it. I just took a couple weeks off and I really miss it. I can;t wait to go back next saturday.

So I was looking at the Humane Society's website a little closer today, and it turns out there's a few volunteer opportunities for 16 yr olds and up. So for the 5 months until then I'll have to find something else.

I will be volunteering at our school's 'Winter Carnival'.. working a game booth.. what fun. XD
My friend and I want to volunteer at 'Animal Friends' (an animal shelter), but we wouldn't have a way to get there since it's.. 30 minutes away.

I volunteer at DCFS. I'm taking leave right now til after my vacation. It's really starting to get to me, seeing those kids. And my co-workers are so dramatic. Work is very very stressful. When I first took leave, 4 of the supervisors immediately then had something they needed me to do. So I stayed for a week or more, even though I was supposed to be on leave. But all summer I've sat in my office reading because they never had anything for me to do. The minute I wanna take a break, they pile on the work.

In March I'm getting an actual, paying job. Not that I don't like my work now, it's just I need a change. I'll probably work at WalMart or Kohls.

I voulenteer at our local no kill animal shelter. It's awesome but we don't have any chord things here at my high school.
