Voicing my frustration earns a surprise treat

Not exactly about DL, but rather our flight home from DL. We are planning a trip in Oct. We purchased our airline tix in mid March (United from Spokane, WA to Ontario) at a price that we thought was pretty good for our family of four. We chose an afternoon departure from ONT so we would not have to get up early at the end of the trip. Turns out that United is eliminating the flight we chose and re-booked us on a morning flight.

Not the end of the world, but I was annoyed. If I wanted to change the flight myself, I would pay big $$ to do it. I expressed my frustration via their website. Much to my surprise, I received a timely response apologizing for the inconvience and to my much bigger surprise they gave each of us a $100 voucher for a future flight "...as a gesture of our goodwill..."

I smell another DL trip in our future...

When Alaska did that to us for our Feb trip last year, we were able to change the flight to anyone we wanted and we actually got better flight times than we previously had. (I had chosen the flight times based on budget).

I maybe would have rather had the vouchers though!

Same thing happened for us. In September, we were planning to take the 4PM flight home and were informed that we were moved to the 9AM flight. Many airlines seem to be dumping flights lately.

I'm glad they made it better for you! You've inspired me to write an email about our change as well.....

It seems like they should let you pick the new flight of your choice without penalty, instead of picking for you. Did they offer to let you make a no-penalty change?

but, it had us arriving back at midnight. I would rather get up early and go home rather than land in Spokane at midnight and have to get up early the next day for work.

Sorry to get off topic, but my parents are from Spokane. I love visiting there! We used to go every summer. We went to the World's Fair when it was there- I was little and hardly remember. Going to the River Front Park continued to be a favorite, seeing an IMAX movie, feeding the vaccuum goat... And I always love driving to the "Parkade" and shopping downtown and walking across the skywalks. And there is a really good thrift store I always liked. I haven't been in years and I miss it!
