VMK is suppose to be an escape from reality where reality becomes a memory and your dreams come true yet everywhere you turn there is real world problems like 9/11 people who might have lost people try to escape and BAM!!! it's there everywhere people are opening 9/11 cafes!!!! vmk should not have real world problems it's a place where nothing bad should happen but it's to good to be true because it does anyway................... :sad1: :sad2:

::yes:: :sad2: They should keep VMK safe and happy. Where no problems from the real world that have occured should be happening :(

it started out with one this morning, now there are a bunch of them. It's almost like it's the "cool thing to do" for some people today! :sad2: Well, I won't be going in them!

I don't recall, but where did VMK advertise as an escape from reality?

I agree VMK should be safe, I think they try to keep everyone safe.

Should be a happy place? Let see Duh Duh's hitting Mummys. Baby who are abandoned. Taken, not taken and taken again. People scamming one another. And lets not get started on the whole "Dreams" thing.

VMK is entertainment and with entertainment comes reality.

Take it for what it is. A place to have fun. And the reality is, Fun is what you make it.

people don't realize that rooms could be offensive too. I find it offensive because i know people who were lost in 9/11. It is a kid game, lets keep it safe and fun please!!

Wouldnt it be a wonderful world if there was only happiness? Alot of ppl use vmk as an escape from real life. But I think alot of our younger players use vmk to talk out their fears from real life such as 911. Maybe younger players that hear their families talk about these horrible events from behind closed doors. We all know what happens when we keep fears and sadness inside.

Vmk and disney is a happy place for sure. But its also a place where we can all go to heal from real life events thru the magic of disney and the help of our vmk and dis family.

:)

Well said! Thanks for that!

Maybe some of those rooms were young kids "playing" through their fears, concerns and thoughts. It's EVERYWHERE today, even gets into the back of my brain throughout the day. For kids to express their concerns in such a way in a game they enjoy is not unusual at all.

I sort of agree ... to me, it's okay when people remember and pay their respects to those who lost their lives in the tragedy. But I find it frustrating when they think of it as a themed holiday, and take advantage of it to make their rooms popular. If they want to go for awards with quest and game rooms dressed up in red, white and blue, they can wait until next 4th of July.

Also remeber that 9/11 happend 6 years ago. Many of these younger players don't remember what it was like. Even a 12 year old would currently have problems remembering and understanding what things were like when they were 6.

Plus, it's the nature of our culture to turn everything into some sort of "profit". Even something so tragic as 9/11. Doesn't make it right, but that's the way it is.

Indeed, well said Paul.

I myself was only.. *wait* doing math.
8.. when the towers were hit.

Didnt know now, but now I understand. This may just be a way for kids to show respect in their own little way. Unless they are very disrespectful rooms like I saw last year. I was sick, so I didnt go onto VMK yesterday.

Seriously I agree with you all yesterday with 9/11 they don't even need to mention it even if it's important it should not be discussed at all on vmk sure it was a huge event but that does not mean vmk needs to discuss it it's sweet they care but still it's a virtual Disney Game!. - Get the hint ;) -

I agree, too many people were obsessed with 9/11 yesterday... Some guy even got mad at me and my friends because we were dancing and talking about how much we loved cake, he told us 'today is not a day to dance or laugh!' VMK is a GAME like most of you have said already, I don't feel like being sad all day in a game where we are supposed to have fun!

WOW - That is a bit harsh. :confused3 And you are right, you should not be sad all day.

I am going to get on a soap box here and then I will hop right back off....

I lost many people I knew that day, my clients. None of them survived. Over 100 people I worked with were gone. And I had 2 co-workers, both were also friends. One was in the cafe getting coffee, which saved his life, the other was murdered that day on the 88th floor, but life goes on and these people who's lives were taken so tragically would not want us to stop living because of what happened, but I think truly the opposite, I believe they would tell us to live each day as if it was the last.

Yesterday, I remembered Michele who was supposed to be married in October, I remembered my customer who was preganant and they identified her by her purple little purse, I remembered my friend Justin who moved his family from China and died at 26 years of age. But you know, I remember these people a lot. I think of their families often, as well as people who die on 12/14, 5/7, 6/25, etc. The magnitiude of what happened on 9/11 was horriffic, but any death that occurs at the hand of hatred if horriffic and tragic.

It is okay for people to recognize what happened and I am not sure that I agree that VMK is an escape from reality, but I do feel that we all owe one another respect and should be that way virtually as much as we should be face-to-face. There are people that post on this forum that I might feel differently about if I had not "seen" them and interacted with them in VMK. We make friends in strange ways and when you are talking about virtual friends, it all comes down to respect.

Off soap box. :upsidedow

I think everyone deals with grief differently. Some want to escape other want a quiet place to hang with friends that feel the way they do. I personally did not go to any room. Also, if you did not want to see this it was easy to do. You neded to not use the guest room feature.

I know that many of us have made good friends in VMK. We have laughed together and cried together. Experienced major highs and some real lows.

Why should September 11th be any different. Also; you never know who has set up this room. Maybe a few really have a connection to someone who was lost in 9-11. Almost 4,000 lives were lost.

I for one will never forget 9-11 and the day the world changed and the fear we all felt. Even in Canada we were scared.

So you have your opinion, but as I said you could have chosen not to notice.
Just hang with your friends.

VMK is just a game but what you forget is there are real people behind those pixels. VMK is not an escape from reality. It may make our reality better but when us humans are playing we bring our insecurites, joy, disappointments, and fun with us into the game.

If you want not to deal with anything negative I would suggest a game that has canned sentences. Then you take the human emotion out of the game. This it is a true escape from the reality we live.

See this is the reason why taken/baby shouldn't be allowed yesterday with 9/11 they don't even need to mention it even if it's important it should not be discussed at all on vmk sure it was a huge event but that does not mean vmk needs to discuss it it's sweet they care but still it's a virtual Disney Game!. - Get the hint ;) -

Taken or baby are not against values. Neither is trying to respect a day in our history when so many lives were lost. Yes vmk should be fun...but not everyone lives in that disney dream world. Some ppl actually lost loved ones on 9-11.
