VMK is asking me to change my name... again (need help!)

Thanks everyone for your help and input!

The "Anya" part of AnyaSparrow is a nickname from my nephews who I adore. Not any real part of my name, so I would like to keep it.

Sparrow is because I heart Captain Jack Sparrow from my fave movies out of my favorite ride.

When they made me pick a new title *again* tonight, I went with AnyaSpareRow.

Think I might trick them this time?

I guess we will see. If they are making me change because they think my real name is Anya, I will be forced to "try again". If it was the "Sparrow" thing, we shall see.

Good luck to all of you who are going through the same thing, and to those of you who are totally concerned that you are going to lose your long time names.

And to Mal: I am SO sorry that your son is losing his beta name. They need to stop being so picky! If they want more players, they are going to have to lighten up! Did you guys try a variation?

There are plenty of people out there with names in their titles. I just don't understand why they are picking on Anya instead of some other more common names.

It's probably because it's not a common name. Bob, Kelsey and many other are common enough that some people may pick them just because they like them.

Anya is not a common name (in the US anyways). So it's much easier to pick out from a crowd.

Well, it apparently wasn't just the anya part of my name. They have rejected Sparrows.girl too.

This could take me months .

The VMK name approval process seems to be random to me. I have gotten some very iffy names approved with no trouble yet had difficulty with names that didn't seem like they would have any trouble being approved.

Here's a recent example:
Terpsichore - the muse of dance - I was inspired by one of my favorite Frank Zappa songs which uses "Terpsichorean Ejectamenta" to describe what you see on a club's dance floor.

Well, Terpsichore was already in use so things like AceTerpsichore and AstroTerpsichore were suggested. I didn't like those so I tried:
Terpsichorean - made it into an adjective - it was rejected in less than 24 hours

so I tried:
Terpsechore - changed the spelling a bit - it was rejected in less than 24 hours

so I tried:
Terpsechorean - another adjective - it was rejected in less than 24 hours

At that point I gave up on the muse. I would have tried qTerpsichore but I figured it wouldn't be approved. So I tried:
DDBigShoes - don't ask - and it was approved within 12 hours


Another example:
Zaphod - from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - rejected within 48 hours

so I tried:
qZaphod - which was approved very quickly, maybe within an hour


One example that I was able to figure out eventually:
tworkhorse - for my alphabet of work horses - rejected immediately

so I tried a bunch more versions of that until I realized it was the letters, "two" that were causing the problem. So I tried:
tqworkhorse - tossing in a silent q usually works - and it was approved within 24 hours

Sometimes it helps to use a thesaurus. You have a better chance of getting something like, "CretinsRule" approved whereas "IdiotsRule" would be rejected faster than you can type it.

My favorite VMK name I've seen is "TinksTinks". At first glance it looks like it is just "Tinks" written twice but if you ignore the second "T", it is actually, "Tink stinks"!

In your case, I'd be tempted to try something like, "AnyaIsNotMyName".

DD's title needed to be changed this week too. She was pretty upset, as we have been playing for over a year.

What really got me upset though is the fact that VMK allows a racist title to exist. If you look at the Jungle Cruise high score list, at times there is a player with a racist title on there. Most likely this player is not aware of the term being racist, but it makes my stomach sick every time I see it. When I was kid, a very nice black family moved onto our street. Several children (and unfortunately some adults) used to call the kids in that family this name. Brings back awful memories every time I see that title. However, VMK has no problem with it.

Perhaps you should alert VMK about this title. I play JC quite regularly and see the titles often and have no idea to which you are referring. It may be that the folks at VMK don't know either. It could be regional. But I definitely think you should let them know. It is supposed to be a happy place and no one should be made to feel badly. Just my humble opinion.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I did report it a few months ago.

The other day I saw someone with the word freek in their title. I know people have been banned for using that word, and when I tried Freaklette as a username in the past it wouldn't let me. I thought that was odd.
