VMAs

Katy lost best pop video too. :( A pox on Lady Gaga!

Drake --> Jimmy Brooks from Degrassi. I can't get past that.

I didn't watch the VMAs because music is just garbage lately for the most part... but yay to this thread -- people who watch(ed) DeGrassi, (and gleaned from signatures) Arrested Development, I.T. Crowd, and the Mighty Boosh! Yay! :cool1:

I'm 3 for 4! I guess I should find out what Mighty Boosh is!

Ok, just checked Youtube and it looks like British comedy. I'm in! It looks like season 1 is on youtube, I'll watch an episode today.
I just discovered A.D. and The IT Crowd about a month ago (thanks to streaming Netflix), but DeGrassi has been a guilty pleasure of mine for years.

Chelsea is one of the funniest comedians ever! I didn't watch, but I'm guessing her usual style wouldn't be appropriate for the show. I DVR her show, and it's hysterical. Her book, Are You There Vodka, It's Me, Chelsea, had me LOL through the whole thing.

Boosh is different. Definitely off-beat, but I love it :)

As for DeGrassi - yeah, a guilty pleasure for me, too. I've been watching since DeGrassi Jr. High (or even The Kids on DeGrassi Street, though I don't remember much of that series) and I still watch it to this day.

I keep wondering where the wheelchair is.

What's funny is, it wasn;t until this Spring I heard of Drake. I watched the DeGrassi ep (my guilty please too) where Ashley had cut his rap from their demo CD. Anyway, a few hours after watching that I was changing channels and came across this video (maybe on BET or MYV2 or something) and said, "Man that guy looks like Jimmy Brooks..." A quick check of Wikipedia confirmed by suspicion.

Also, I am not 100% sure, but I think he appears in Justin Beiber's "Baby" video in the bowling alley. And while I am not a teenybooper, can I tell ya that JBs songs have grown on me. Yes, I do have "Baby" on my iPod. LOL!

I had to record it and am watching it now.

I do NOT believe Usher was lip syncing at all.

I like Rock music so there's little to interest me in anything MTV shows. However it is a shame to hear that Chelsea Handler was so bad because she can definitely be funny.

Usher was occasionally singing live over a VERY heavy backing track. That much was very obvious. He didn't actually bother to lip sync most of it. Which is fine. I'm not knocking Usher. That is standard award show performance. With all the dancing etc, they just can't take the chance on TV.

There were several that were sung over backing tracks and a few that should have been.

Anyone else screaming "Hidden Mickey" everytime they show the DJ????:happytv:

That was the most entertaining part! :rotfl2: My DD wanted to watch it last night and I was forced to also because we were studying during the commercials. :teacher: Anyway, that show was horrible! I normally don't even like Justin either, but he was great compared to the others. The jokes were stupid too. :rolleyes1

I know EXACTLY what episode you are talking about. I saw it about 2 years ago and I swear I remember thinking that he was pretty good. Still, I was surprised when I found out who Drake was.
Like ShesAPirate, I remember watching the original Degrassi when it was only on PBS. I didn't realize it was still on until a few years ago when we got The N added to our cable. They had an "Every Degrassi Ever Made" marathon (technically not true, it was only the modern Degrassis, not the original ones).

I thought I was the only one who watched it, and then my 2 DDs got hooked. One day my youngest came home and said our neighbor said a girl on the bus looked like Paige Michelchuk. I'm like "How does he know who Paige is???" I couldn't believe anyone else watched it. lol
I'm 37, btw. :scared1:

Be glad you missed it. I'm a Chelsea fan too, and it just didn't work. Wrong crowd, wrong generation whatever. It was bad. They need to stick to Ariq Aziz because seeing him was about the only highlight of the show for me. It made me appreciate his chemistry with the crowd. Chelsea was painful. And I really do think she's hilarious.

Remember Letterman hosting the Oscars? He's terrifically funny, but it was a disaster. Some things look good on paper.

Florence was beyond amazing and how about Lincoln Park! They were very cool.

I was really happy that 30 Seconds to Mars won best Rock Video! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song and their new album is great.

Usher was lip synching but he was also dancing his you know what off, maybe an omage to Michael Jackson it was good.

I do have to say that even though I am not a huge fan of Taylor Swift, talk about having class and grace at such a young age. The song was beauitful and I am sure she was nervous performing it knowing he was right there.

His song was okay, I thought his attempt was dumb, but I do give him credit. He is very talented, just misguided. Taylor had it right with her song.
