Vitamix blender?

Make butter from milk .

Want to do it real cheap? Take heavy cream and put it into a sealed container. Shake it vigorously and in about 20 minutes you have butter. Then drain off the white liquid but don't throw it away. That's buttermilk.

We just got one and love it! We make green smoothies every morning :thumbsup2

My hubby and I have the same smoothie most mornings:

1 orange
1 apple (or pear)
1/4 - 1/4 lemon or lime
about 2 cups frozen pineapple
a piece of ginger
2-4 kale leaves
2 celery stalks
Chia or flax seeds
greek yogurt
ice

My kids love
apple, banana, mango celery, kale, chia or flax, greek yogurt & coconut milk

they also like apple, peach strawberry with yogurt and milk

We got our Vitamix in December. It was on QVC as a Today's Special Value. It's a 7500 series and the container actually fits under the counter! It's shorter and wider than the other ones. We got it with free delivery and 5 Easy Payments. The warranty is 7 years. It was a great deal! The exact model we got was $150 or so cheaper than on the Vitamix website or at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I haven't used it as much as some of these other posters, but I plan to. And I'd love to see recipes!

I use it to make ice cream shakes, smoothies, grind coffee and make breadcrumbs. I'm sure ill have it for YEARS to come!!!

Thanks folks of the budget board... now I NEED ; ) a Vitamix !!

I just got mine for my birthday last Saturday. I'm in love because I make a green smoothie every morning but I definitely need some more recipes!

Our local news just featured the consumer report on blenders. CR gave the $60 Ninja good reviews.

I have been eyeballing the Ninja 1100. Anyone have any thoughts on that one?

I'm leaning towards the Vitamix. But, which one???? :faint:

I'm on the fence of buying one now thanks to this board! My friend just recently got into juicing so wondering if this is better, it seems like you can do more.

The Blendtec is the best gift I ever received! We bought it two Christmases ago from Costco, I got two containers with it(the wild side jar and the regular) and it was maybe around $360. I use mine at least three times a day. Mainly for different smoothies, I can use kale and baby spinach and even a couple pieces of a lemon, rind too and even the core of the pineapple and its so smooth. It's just an awesome machine. I make a puréed vegetable soup too that is good, no need to peel all the veggies before you cook them since the blender purées them so well. Homemade salsa is great, I want to get into grinding wheat berries for flour, making almond and rice milks and different nut butters too. It's great in the summer for pureeing or juicing watermelon then freezing it in ice pop molds. Basically whatever smoothie you make you can then freeze. Found a recipe last week for Frosty Paws that my dogs are going to love this summer too.
I say go for it, she will be so happy and so will you!

Smoothie question for all you Vitamix owners - Does it really pulverize raspberry/strawberry seeds when you make a smoothie? I believe the place where I occasionally get a smoothie has Vitamix blenders, but there are a ton of whole seeds in it when they give it to me.

I don't know about the Vitamix as I have the Blentec but it does blend them into the smoothie. We made strawberry daiquir's a couple weeks ago that were amazing and no seeds. I use raspberries every morning in a smoothie and they come out very smooth.

No--it breaks down a few of the seeds but not all of them!! We have a Vitamix!!

I would love to know how you make almond milk. What do you add besides the almonds and how long can you store it? Thanks!

Jennyerin, I usually start with organic raw almond butter, as it will go a bit farther and removes a step in the process. I put 3 cups water in the blender and 3 Tbs almond butter, and 1 cup chipped ice. I blend at high speed for just under a minute. I strain it through cheesecloth, put it back in the blender and add 1tsp vanilla and 1-2 Tbs raw honey. I add a tiny pinch of salt and blend at medium speed for just under a minute. Strain it again and store it in the fridge.

Honestly, I can't tell you how long it will last as we go through it so quickly :). We don't do dairy so all we use is homemade almond or coconut milk. I usually make the above recipe two or three times in order to get a good bit of milk to last the week. The honey is a preservative so it won't go bad quickly. It's absolutely delish. You obviously can add as much vanilla and honey as you'd like.

I own a Ninja and really like it. It can do the ice cubes into snow trick! I love it for making health ice cream or sorbets! Great product ! Got mine from QVC.

Ice can be made into snow, literally! My kids love it for snowcones.

I also can blend a green smoothie made with kale and spinach and there are absolutely NO chunks in it, it is blended to oblivion! Same with any kind of frozen fruit smoothies. NO CHUNKS.

How do you do this?
