Just back from the Vistana Villages staying in a 2BR villa from September 15 thru 21. Missed all the hurricanes. We missed all the rain except for about a half hour on the last day. I will focus on the Villages for anyone thinking of staying here.

We changed our reservations a total of 4 times deciding where to stay. We had a party of six, with grandma and grandma, mom and dad, and two kids, ages 5 and 2. Our main concerns were ease of access to the parks from the resort, both kids being able to use the same pool, and receiving a new room, not an older unit needing repair because all the owners got the newer ones or we checked in on the wrong day.

We originally were going to bite the bullet and stay in two rooms at the Dolphin for $139 for each room just because it was so convenient. Then we changed to CPGV at $139 for a 3BR villa. More research and we changed to the Sheraton Vistana Resort in a 2BR for $119 with no housekeeping. After discovering we would be placed in an older section because of our day of check in(Wednesday) we then switched to the Marriott Grande Vista at $143 for a 2BR villa. Finally, we took the internet rate of $140 for a 2BR villa at the Vistana Villages.

One thing about the Vistana Villages; the room we received was exactly what you see on the website. The room, the pool, and the grounds were all exactly as advertised. There are ten buildings surrounding the pool and lake area and the farthest one is less than a five minute walk to the main area. Buildings 1 and 2 were the closest and we requested either one of those but we did not want to wait so we took the first available in building number 4. We did not think it mattered that much, but it would be a little more convenient in 1 or 2, but make sure to ask for a higher room because of the noise.

If you are looking for a lot of activities and loud parties this is not the place. They did have some activities planned each day but nothing to keep you at the resort. They have a small pool bar tucked away next to the small deli that had fresh coffee and breakfast sandwiches in the morning and some lunch servings as well. It also doubled as a small convenience store carrying some packaged goods. This resort has no restaurant.

I wouldn't even consider staying here without renting a vehicle. It is on the very southern end of I Drive and nothing really in walking distance. However, you can find anything you need within a 10 minute drive. There is the IRide Trolley that runs up and down I Drive but do not take this if you are in a hurry. Many stops. We rode it for the kids once and it took 45 minutes to get from our resort up to Houlihans just by Wonderworks. As for getting to Disney, it was great. Three traffic lights and then you driving under the Disney signs. We liked the location, we never experienced any traffic whatsoever getting to Disney and we reached the gates in about ten minutes. Of course it still took another 10 to 30 to reach a park entrance depending where you were going. I believe they had complimentary shuttles to Disney but you would be restricted to their schedule.

The pool was great. There is one continuous pool that wraps around a few waterfalls. On one end it is zero entry with the fountains that shoot into the air. It gradually gets deeper with the edges about 3 foot and the very middle was 5 foot 6 inches deep. A volleyball net was set up on the far end. A quiet pool was isolated on the top tier. If you have a toddler and an older child this pool may be ideal for you. You can grab a couple of loungers right by the kiddie area and still be very close to the deeper end to watch the older child. There were a few covered cabanas available and also a hot tub nearby. There is no slide. We loved the setup of this pool for our 2 yr old and our 5 yr old.

As I mentioned, the room was exactly as I expected. Everything was new and clean, and very convenient to have a kitchen for fast and early breakfasts. We used the whirlpool in the master bedroom often and the pull out bed had the most comfortable mattress I have ever seen for a sofabed. We even slept on it for the last night.

In summary, our trip was awesome. We dodged the hurricanes, hardly any rain at all, and no surprises at our villa. If you are looking for a lot of action then you may want to stay somewhere else, but if you want a nice place to relax for a few hours each day between parks this may be it.

I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions you may have about this resort or anything in general. By the way, we had an awesome time at the parks. Four days and nights at the parks, longest wait was 10 minutes, rode and did everything we wanted to and saw all the nightime shows. Cant wait for next time (2007?)

Good report on the Vistana Villages. They were one of our possibilities this past June but we opted for the Royal Pacific at Universal. We saved our Disney visit for later and got a good rate (Code BAT) at Port Orleans Riverside for this Christmas.

Poonchkie,

Thanks for the great report. I'm really curious about Vistana.

I am taking my extended family (8 adults 2 kids total) to stay at SSR resort next December for four nights on my Disney Vacation Club points. My husband, kids and I are thinking of staying somewhere prior to the four nights at SSR, (and inviting any of the other family to come along, paying their own way) since all our points will be used those four nights. I'm debating between POrt Orleans Resort and Vistana.

Quick question: Is there a difference between Sheraton Vistana Resort and Vistana Villages? I would have thought they were the same, but your rates for them are different.

Thanks again for the great info.

Poonchkie,

I also forgot to mention that my kids right now are 1 and 4. They will be one month shy of being 3 and 6 when we go in December 2005. Sounds like the pool situation worked well for your two year old and five year old. I'm really taking that into consideration.

I am interested also in the difference between the two. We have Oct ressie at the "Vistana Villas", and I know the resort is much larger.

We got a special rate, and we will be checking in VERY late at night, so I hope that doesn't mean we'll get stuck w/an older room.

What's your opinion, poonchkie?

Well, we have only stayed at the Vistana Villages so our only first hand knowledge is of that resort, but we did a lot of research on the Vistana Resort.

First and foremost, I would absolutely make sure you do not confuse the two resorts or you may book one and end up staying in the other resort. The Vistana Resort is the much larger of the two on Vistana Centre Dr and has more activities and will probably be much busier. It is closer to Disney but by only about 5 minutes total.

The Vistana Villages is on the quiet end of International Drive and has only 10 buildings which are all within a 5 minute walk of the pool and main building. Buildings 1 and 2 are adjacent to the pool, playground, and main building. Building 10 is the farhest away and close to the road. but still not that bad of a walk.

The pool at the Vistana Villages(V V) was ideal for our two young children and also for the older people in our party. You can camp out by the pool and you will probably be able to keep an eye on everyone from one spot. No slide at this pool, but it does have a waterfall that drops into the pool at the 3 foot level and zero entry side with water sprays that shoot into the air. There is also a hot tub by the kiddie side and another up by the separate quiet pool on the upper level.

As I mentioned before the website shows it all. This resort is only 4 or 5 years old so all the units are the same and you dont have to worry about getting an older unit or a unit in an older section. Also, you will be centrally located wherever you are placed. I dont believe it matters what day you check in as you will be placed in whatever unit is available.

The actual 2BR villa we stayed in was well stocked with all the kitchenware needed, such as bowls, plates, cups, some condiments, and paper towels. No salt and pepper and one other small thing I cant remember now. We did not have to purchase anything from the grocery store other than edible groceries.

From our research we discovered a few things about the Vistana Resort (VR). Depending our your day of arrival you will placed in certain sections of the resort (Spas, Courts, etc...) and these may be older units with more used furnishings. You can get more info from the Sheraton Vistana Resort website. It also has a large map showing all the color coded sections which will tell you where you will placed according to day of check in. Also, a lot of discussion of the boards say that the newer sections of this resort are reserved for the time share owners, but I have heard conflicting reports about that. If you looking for a lot of amenities and more things to do at your resort than the Vistana Resort is probably a better choice for you. I believe both resorts would require a vehicle unless you wanted to be restricted to the shuttles and the onsite food options.

One last thing, you can rent villas at either place. If you refer to the Vistana Villas you may confuse someone and get some incorrect information. I believe some of the trip reports on Trip Advisor are incorrect because people have confused the two resorts. My advice is double check the address before doing any finalizing of reservations.

Our trip was awesome. We dodged two hurricanes, the longest line in the parks all week was 10 minutes and we got rained on once in Epcot for 30 minutes. Also no surprises at the Vistana Villages, we got exactly what we expected.

P.S. Lorix, if you are out there, thanks for all your advice. We were able to get a good rate for the Villages at the last minute and we wouldn't have done it without your advice.

Finally, we took the internet rate of $140 for a 2BR villa at the Vistana Villages.

Poonchkie, could you possibly share the site where you found that rate for Vistana Villages? Thanks in advance!:D

We own 2 weeks at Vistana resort (VR) and have stayed there every year for the last 10 years. We have never stayed at Vistana Villages (VV) but have drove by more than once.

As far as location, they are both a 5-10 minutes drive from Downtown Disney (for VV, you use the "shortcut" where Dixie Stampede is located). I did not know there was no restaurant at VV, but I know there are 3 restaurants at VR all within 5-10 minutes walk from your villa. They run some specials through the week (BBQ night, Mexican, Pasta, etc) at reasonable prices. There is also a Bennigan's and Checkers right outside the main gate at VR.

Across the street from the main gate at VR there is a mini golf and a grocery store.

Owners do not get placed in the new section all the time (Cascades, I believe). You buy into one of the sections and that's where you stay. In our case is the Fountains II and we go there every time. The map will show the area within a specific section (Fountains, Cascade, etc) where you will be located depending on the check in day (Fri, Sat or Sun). I've checked in on days of the week different from those 3 but don't remember where I was placed.

I hope this will be of help,
