I have a reservation right now for Oct. 1 for a week at Vistana Resort for 2 bedroom unit and keep getting nervous that this is not the right choice. Can anyone give me their opinion on a nice 2 or 3 bedroom here's our criteria:
close as possible to Disney
Nice pools (and a pool bar!)
nice units
We are taking my 2 young daughters and my mother in law too so want to the space but want some resort amenities as well. I also wonder if vistana or orange lake are toooo big? anything else in this category right near disney I should be thinking about? THANKS!

Sheraton Vistana Resort has lots of resort amenities and is close to Disney.

Orange Lake also has several - but (in my opinion) not nearly as close to Disney.

Cypress Point is a little closer to WDW than Vistana - but not nearly as many resort amenities.

I first through Sheraton VIstana Resort would be too big, too - but it wasn't - each area is kind of like its own.

unless you want to you don't have to go to the main area at all - well after you check in.

Which of these three (Orange Lake, Vistana Resort, or CPGV) is the best bet for getting a "nice" unit? I know about the older sections at the Vistana, do the others have these issues and is that enough to keep me away from there? Is the Vistana closest to disney parks? Also, any how idea how crowded it is the first week of October?

Cypress Pointe is the closest to the parks. and yes Orange Lake gets the same complaints about their older units.

Cypress Pointe is a smaller resort - so not as much activities.

read about it on
www.rcicommunity.com

click on the resort link above - then put in the name of the resort.

however take some of these complaints with a grain of sand - I don't clean on top of my refrigerator at home - fans will collect dust - it is the nature of the fan - insects are all over Florida - WDW has the money and more important the people to fight these things - but even Disney has a problem with insects - it is Florida.

read the reviews that say it was awful - then compare them with the reviews that say wonderful.

You may love it or you may hate it.

We loved our stay at the Sheraton Vistana and we will stay there again!!! I will tell you how I feel about Orange Lake soon - staying there in Sept. I haven't stayed yet at Cypress Pointe - but some people hate it...

i have been to two of the three resorts you mentioned and would agree with Pat that the Vistana Resort is the best choice. Yes, it has some older untis but the resort is in a great location, it has a nice size, and all the pools are nice. Hopefully you'll get a unit you like as well. We didn't like Orange Lake that much.

I have been to all three and I would say hands down Vistana.

We've been to Vistana and OLCC and loved them both. We had an older unit at Vistana and thought it was not just fine, but great. The unit was very large and clean and other than the mirrors everywhere it was not too dated at all. We would trade into Vistana anytime, no questions asked. Our stay OLCC was our first ever trade into the Disney area and we were placed in the North Village and WOW - we thought we had won the jackpot. We loved the unit and even considered buying there so we took the tour. On the tour we saw the older units and yes they were not as plush, but thought they were great too. I can't imagine not being happy with either of these and think that some people just won't be happy anywhere (hence some of the complaining that's making you worry). Go, enjoy, you will be fine!

I own at Orange Lake and I really like it there. You would enjoy it but the resort is spread out. It has the amentities but the best area for young children would probably be in the North Village near the pools. Technically, Orange Lake is closer to Disney (border the Animal Kingdom) but the drive time from Vistana Resort to WDW is quicker (about the same from Orange Lake if you use Sherbert Road but that might be confusing to locate).

I stayed at the Fountains II area of Vistana Resort. It was okay. I didn't think there was enough parking spaces but the pool area seem to be within reasonable distance from any room. Depending on where you are located, you may need to drive to other sections for some of the amentities. You can download a map of the resort layout from the Sheraton website. Vistana is nice. IF you choose to stay there, as others have mentioned, you should enjoy the stay.
