i am trying to download my alien skin exposure. it will download but isn't showing up in the photoshop elements filters like it did in xp...could this be a compatibility problem. i didn't see anything about it on the website. i can only download one of the programs i have and have it show up in the plug in filter list ( they all used to be there. ) any ideas why it isn't showing up where it should?( i'm putting it in the plugins folder like i did before)
thanks

I do not know the solution, but want to warn you that this is not likely your last problem with Vista. I have seriously thought about reformatting my drive and going back to XP. My pc came with Vista and I do not like it.

I cannot solve your specific problem, but can give you great direction for the future! It is called a MAC!

There is probably a folder inside the PS Elements folder where the filters go (usually .8bf files). For example, in PS CS3, it's \Program Files\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins.

The one you just installed should be in there. If it's not, it probably exists in its own folder under Program Files... look in there, you will probably find the .8bf file (along with maybe some DLLs), try copying that to the Plug-Ins folder under PS Elements.

Is this a newer version of PS Elements you're using it with? Possible Alien Skin just doesn't know enough to automatically look for whichever version you're running.

they are the same versions i was using on the old computer but can't seem to get them to install in the new one. only one installed. i'll see if i can find them else where...on an up note, at least the manuals installed this time. i could never find them on the last computer...course not much good they do without the program:rolleyes1 there is a plug in folder in pse and that is where i put them, they just aren't showing up...of course the free programs i like have gone in fine it's just the $$$ ones that want to play hard to get.

just a thought try right clicking on the install program and use the run as Administrator option and see if that works.

I had one program that would look like it worked but just wouldnt come up and I found that hint and tried it and it installed just fine and works like its supposed to.

i found the folders and dragged them to plugins...they were under alien skin intead(?????)and i got it to work but they wouldn't save as edited, then had to drag another part, they were in 2 bits for some odd reason in under alien skin in pse just not in plug ins where i put them??????? and i think they are working...now if i could just figure out why i keep hitting cap lock instead of a on the key board..... must be smaller or something , my typos were bad before now they are just illegible:rotfl: i like the look of vista but i has some annoying redundant features i could do with out

Good to hear that you got it working!

As for the keyboard, I can't help you. I only use old IBM "clicky" keyboards whenever possible - they'll have to drag mine out of cold, dead hands before I go to using another one at home (especially one with those wretched "Windows" keys!) I say, if you don't like it, set it aside and get another one. They're cheap. :)
