So as luck would have it, I'll be passing through Vero Beach next week. I wont be staying at the resort, but was hoping to go check it out to see what it's like. With that being said, has anybody else done this? Is security strict or is it similar to the Disney hotels at WDW where visiting is encouraged?

Yes you can stop and visit the resort. Pool access is KTTW card controlled, but the other areas of the resort are open.

We did this by 2 years ago when driving from Miami to Daytona. I wanted to check it out so we stopped for lunch at the Green Cabin Room and had a nice light lunch with it's great view of the ocean. We just told the security person that we wanted to see the resort and would be having lunch there - no problem. Ended up that we really liked it and stayed for a week last year :thumbsup2

We do this about once a year. We show the security our DVC card and say we want to visit and eat lunch (or a Mickey bar!) and they say Welcome Home! It's a great place to just sit and watch the ocean and have a touch of Disney in your life. Then we hop back in the car and do Florida traffic.

We love Vero we stayed once last year and one day this year. It is now our pre cruise place. Even when the ship goes to Miami we will stay in it. The pool is huge plus the Green Cabin can't be beat!

So we can visit, and enjoy the beach but no pool access, correct?
We will be accompanying my DH to Cocoa Beach for a work related class this summer, and I am trying to think of things to do. Being so close to Vero is tempting. He wanted me to see if I could book a night or two, but if not maybe we can just drive down and enjoy hanging at the resort for a few hours.

i was wondering the same thing.... staying at okw for twelve nights and was thinking of a beach excursion for the kids.... could we visit Vero for the day and use the pool and beach in addition to having lunch there?

I believe Vero Beach is included in pool hopping. So once you arrive at Vero, stop at the front desk with your OKW room key and they will give you a card that gives you pool and beach access.

Mapquest the exact time. We have done it twice now and it really seems to go by quick. Once out of Orlando, it's really quiet and I personally enjoy the drive.

We just drove from SSR to VBR. Left at 10am and arrived at 1145am. Traffic was light and it was a Tuesday =)

There are no day guest privileges for DVC. You need to be a registered resort guest to pool hop and to take advantage of the DVC beach. You can visit the resort, but you really shouldn't be using the amenities, except maybe to dine and shop or just walk around. You won't have access to any pool towels/beach towels or changing facilities.

I was just mapping the route for our drive from visiting family in Fort Lauderdale to Port Canaveral (sailing the Dream, can't wait!) and realized that we'd go right by Vero Beach! We weren't DVC members the last time we made the drive, so stopping never even occurred to me... but this would be awesome! We'd love to see it and maybe have lunch! So is the Green Cabin Room the place to go? Would we need a reservation?

Thanks! :)
