I have a kid who really wants to visit Tom Sawyer Island before it closes. Because of our schedules it’s not an easy thing to plan, plus no one seems to know when it’s closing. Now that they announced the upcoming closure of TMRR, it seems like it will be sooner than expected?

We do have a cruise planned out of Miami at Christmas. I hate how busy it gets but that might be our only chance. Is it open then?

How could we get from Miami to WDW?

We booked our flights with AM, how hard are they to change?

Thanks for any help!

We did this very thing last holiday season. We had a cruise out of Miami and then rented a car and drove to Disney to spend a few days over the new year. We spent at least an hour at TSI, so I'm assuming it'll be open as long as it's not been closed for good. My kids absolutely loved it, and it was a beautiful place to escape the crazy crowds for a bit.
Like I said, we rented a car from a venue close to the port and drove to Orlando. Then we flew back home from Orlando. Another option we considered (and will definitely do in the future) is the Brightline Train to MCO and then taking an Uber to Disney. It was such a beautiful time to be in the parks; we'd do it again (even with the extra travel headaches) in a second!

Save some extra time to queue to tour the island. It’s been more crowded than norm most Christmases. Remember there is only one way on and off.

There's the Brightline Train that you could take from MCO to Miami.
