Can we go to the Poly to get quick service dinner these days, without being a guest there? We are guests at the French Quarter. But wanted to drive over to poly for something g different.

Nope. It's pretty well documented lately that security at the MK and BC/YC/BW resorts are absolutely not allowing people into a resort without a resort reservation or ADR. The issue is parking - they won't let you park. You can use Disney transport, but not Poly parking. But since the MK parking lot is at the TTC, getting to Poly wouldn't be a bad walk from the parking lot.

Too many people try to 'game' the parking fee for MK by parking for free at one of the monorail resorts. I am sure the guards hear all sorts of creative excuses from people who try to get away with that. Apparently one of the newer 'schemes' was to say you did an on-line food order and were only there to pickup your food. From other threads I have read, that reason no longer works either. Best choice is take Disney transportation to any of the resorts located near one the Disney parks.

We saw a half dozen cars turned away at the gate to resorts where we had ADRs.

DH was also typically asked for ID as well as having his MB scanned.

A couple times, we waited 5-10 minutes, seemingly for the guard to explain that no, they were not going to be allowed in. A few swung into the u-turn out of the resort more speedily than appeared wise.

Frankly, I'm all for it if this is finally a crackdown on people using resort parking to go to the parks.

As a resort guest you would get free parking at the TTC. It is a short walk to the Poly from there. Not sure what the parking procedures are these days, previously we have been able to choose our own spot near the front when arriving later in the afternoon.
If you have a car at another Disney resort you will not pay extra to park at the Magic Kindom parking lot. On our last visit we arrived early in the day and parked at the farthest north and west area of the lot. There is a small bridge that will cross over into the south gated parking area of Poly. Yes there would be a slightly longer walk through to the center of resort. You should enjoy the walk and on the way back to your car you might see some awesome fireworks!

THIS^

Last month I parked at TTC and walked to Poly to do some shopping in the gift shop. It's easy.

That's true.

We'd heard how short the walk was but hadn't ever stayed there until last fall.

Happened to stay in PagoPago which makes the walkway practically a few feet out its main entrance.

Takes about 10-15 minutes at a moderate adult pace. Certainly beats getting onto the monorail to the Poly. Even if you walk right onto it, almost takes longer to walk that endless ramp to where you board the train!
