Visiting Kennedy Space Center without paying admission?

We will be staying near Port Canaveral prior to our Disney Cruise. We have a the evening available and was thinking of visiting the Kennedy Space Center. I checked out their website and they close at 5:30 PM, so we would not have much time there. I also saw that their last tour was at 1:30 PM. Would it even be worth it to drive there to look around. I remember many years back that there were some areas open without requiring admission. Is this still so?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

There's nothing that you can see without paying admission (about 28-$30 pp, I think).

Sorry, but you need at least a half day just for the bus tour and a full day to see most of the other things--IMAX films, Shuttle Launch Simulator, etc.

Agree with Olderman. We recently went to KSC after reading a blog from the company we rent from. Have to say it was a wonderful day out with so much to do and to see. The blog is at http://www.floridaleisureonline.com/?p=121 but if you only have an evening available then I'd say leave it until another day when you have a lot more time.

You might want to give the Astronaut Hall of Fame a try for an hour or so though. It's usually included in the park admission but they may do a ticket just to go into that.

FYI:
I know there was a thread on the Budget Board in the spring about contacting your elected representative (Congressman?) in DC to arrange for free tickets to Kennedy Space Center...
Maybe you could search/ask there?
