For the first time in awhile we will not be staying at Ft. Wilderness and staying off property. Usually at night we like to walk around and have a drink on the porch at Crocketts Tavern. Can we do this? If we drive up to the gate will then let us park and take a bus there? We like to watch the electric water pageant at night also. Are they still doing that?

Thanks for any help..

If possible, I would take the boat from MK or a bus over from a park or Disney Springs. I think unless you have a dining or some other $$$ reservation, they are getting stricter about letting cars drive in and park, not only at Ft Wilderness but all the resorts. Also, based on my conversation with the manager over Halloween, he advised us that when are staying there even in Jan (said they are booked full through March) to ensure everyone who may be coming to the campsite is added to the reservation because visiting for the day is not allowed. Now I don't know how real that is in practice, just relaying what he said.

Interesting… I have never gone looking for actual reference to “visiting” the property. I think that generally, you are correct in that most of the time, if you do not have a reservation for dining, show, or campsite, they will not allow you to park in the lot (although I have been permitted that option in the past, but that may have been a one off fluke). But, as a WDW guest, what if you take the boat/bus over to visit for shopping, takeout, etc. It seems (with the exception of Halloween weekend which had special rules about visiting Ft. Wilderness, although seemed to have questionable enforcement) that just coming to the property, up to now, has not been restricted. Once again, though, I have never ever looked to see if there is anything printed/published in reference to this.

There was no need to double post this question over on the DIS Resorts Board.

The latest info for the Fort is from Fort campers. We're here to help.

Hope you have a great visit.

Just don't plan it on a rainy day.. last time we were at the fort but not staying at the fort, went for a visit and am confident the fort punished for not staying there by raining during our visit!

I have dvc and you are allowed to pool hop with dvc. I didn’t want to pool hop, but I did want to just take a walk, Since you can no longer walk the trail from the wilderness lodge to fort wilderness. I just wanted to get away from people for a while.
The guard did finally let me in, but he did give me a hard time about it. So I would definitely take the boat.
