Visiting Animal Kingdom Lodge without reservation

Can we visit the Animal Kingdom Lodge without a reservation? We'll be driving. We would like to see the Christmas decor, the animals, and the grounds in general. Considering a stay there next time we come.

Yes! Disney wants people to visit their other resorts - both to spend $$$ and entice them to stay there in the future.

I'm not sure how parking works though. I know parking is free for up to 3 hours if you have an ADR or tour, but not sure what the protocol is when you don't.

You should be fine. The parking issue is primarily at the monorail resorts and some of the Epcot resorts. These resorts struggle with guests using the parking lot to avoid paying for parking in the parks.

Yes, it shouldn’t be an issue, just tell them at the guard shack what you are doing, and you may need to show a photo ID.
I visited AKL about a month ago because I was looking for something in the resort gift shop. I’ve heard people say you get a 3-hour pass, but this has never been the case for me at any resort, I’ve always just been waved thru.
