I am a college student in the nations capital and one of my friends from home is doing the college program at Disney. So I figured why the heck not, and took a trip down to Disney to visit him, as it was too cold in Washington, and relaxing for a weekend seemed perfect.
I was going only for a weekend, Feb 9-12, 2007 so I had to consolidate everything with 2 days only in the parks. Had class Friday, so flew out Friday evening from National Airport in Virginia on US Airways. Flight left about 10 minutes late, but I had an exit row seat so it was nice. The flight however was bad as it was an old plane and I had a really fat man in the middle seat next to me, half in my seat, quite uncomfortable.
Landed at MCO and rented a car from off-site EZ Rent-A-Car who were really great and got a Mazda 5, which was a great car. (See other post for EZ review.) Got some dinner at Taco Bell as they dont feed you on planes anymore then drove to the hotel, the Country Inn & Suites Lake Buena Vista which was just average.
Saturday morning, I woke up early and drove over to the Magic Kingdom by 11a.m. did every ride I wanted to while there. Some lines were really wrong by Disney organizes everything amazing such as the parking system and FastPasses. Splash Mountian stand-by line was so long, so we got of the line but moved to FastPass.
Left Disney by 8pm as we were so tired and went back to the Disney College Program Housing, which is off-site near Downtown Disney. It was really nice and we got some Arbys for dinner, as there is none back home in New York and I love it. After visiting the college program housing, I drove to my next hotel, the Homewood Suites by Hilton International Drive, which was an amazing hotel.
Spent the night there, then drove to Epcot by 11a.m. again and did the rides section in the morning. Test track at one point read that it was a 70-minute wait, but it was actually 10 minutes, can someone explain why those 60 minutes off? After Epcot rides, we took Disney transport over to MGM and rode Tower of Terror, my first time and Great Movie Ride followed by Beauty & the Beast.
After MGM, we took the shuttle boat back to Epcot, but the back entrance so we were near the countries. The shuttle boat operators kept playing Disney trivia with us. We then did my favorite part of Disney, all the countries. I bought a little bit too much, but since I was with my friend we got 40 percent off everything for Disney cast.
Had a long talk with an employee from England as I will be moving there for the summer and she told me some things to bring/some things to do.
Stayed for my favorite Disney show, Illuminations, which is always amazing and then, left for the third and last hotel. Even though half the park stayed for Illuminations there was not traffic at all getting out of the parking lot, as Disney is just amazing like that.
Drove down to the last hotel, Sleep Inn & Suites Orlando Airport and put my bags inside. Then returned the rental car, and then took a taxi back to the hotel as it was midnight.
Work up early the next day to take the hotel shuttle to MCO, but the shuttle was running late. Finally made it, only to find out my US Airways flight was delayed an hour and half because of late incoming aircraft. Flight finally late two hours late and landing at National Airport, an hour and a half late.
Even with the many flight delays, it was an amazing trip. Landing back in Washington and then this wintry mix began to fall, and I wished I was still back in DisneyWorld, the happiest place on earth.
