And I must say, we were quite impressed. Apparently they have a Member Open House from 5-7PM each night, in the Congress Park building. They have all the units tourable for DVC members. The GV was quite impressive!! Beautifully decorated, and of course, the one they were using as the model has a spectacular view! A nice feature is that you can access the second floor of the GV without going up the stairs, by taking the building's elevator up to the next level, and using your room key to get inon the 2nd floor. That was an accomodation made for handicapped guests who might not be able to use the stairs to access the upstairs bedrooms. The other units were nice as well, although more comparable in size to the BCV,BWV, & VWL units, rather than the OKW units. I do like the studio with the bed & the couch, rather than the 2 beds. Makes it seem less like a hotel room and more like an apartment or small condo.

I like SSR in general. It reminds me more of a little town, similar to OKW.

Unfortunately at $95/point, we won't be buying. Even with the AP or II Trip offer they are doing right now, when I did the math, it basically droppped the cost per point down to $88...still a little rich for thiose of us who paid $62.50 and $65 per point!

I sure wish I could've bought my SSR points at $62.50 or $65/point! I would've bought a whole lot more points, then!!! :D I wonder if DVC will find that they raised the price a bit too much when it leaped up to $95/point? I bought my SSR points in April, and was able to pay about $79/point (with the "sell-your-1st-year's-points-back" program...) Although it doesn't sound like sales are slowing down at all!

Glad to hear you liked the atmosphere of SSR overall! It's always reassuring to hear positive reports of SSR, especially since I still haven't gotten to see it for myself yet! (Soon, though!)

You do know that if you are willing to forgo 2004 points (in other words, not accept ownership in SSR Phase I) and purchase SSR points from Phase II (which means that you can use them beginning in about March 2005), you can knock off $10 per point (to make it $85 ppt rather than $95 ppt)???

When you add in the AP offer, it becomes quite tempting, no????

I'm right there with you Sarah!! ::yes::

The DVC discount of $10 per point was enough for my DW and I to take the plunge. No, it's not $62 or even $79 a point, but those days are gone unless you go for resale. At $85 a point, it's still a bargain for a long term vacation plan.

Hello, I am new to the board and am looking for feedback on the DVC. I recently visited disney during hurricane frances and had the opportunity to visit SSR and found it to be beautiful. My family has gone to disney for the past 9 years and are on the fence about purchasing DVC. When we visit we usually stay at WL on the concierge level and love it there. Does anyone miss staying on conciege who has purchased DVC? This seems to be a big factor for my DH or an excuse???

Yeah, and it would be great to pay $.99 a gallon for gasoline again, but I'm not holding my breath.

When the time comes for us to add on more points, I'll certainly do some comparison of resale vs. DVC purchase. But I'm not going to let the price point deter me. Whether the break-even point is 6 years or 8 years, that still leaves me with a heck of a lot of years of discounted vacations!

Of course, I wish we had checked out DVC and bought when the points were in the $60's, BUT back then we had small children and no money, so the price point didn't matter. Now, we have grown children and more expendable funds....or at least the ability to make more expendable funds....and it is really no more expensive to us now than it would have been then.

My viewpoint is that even at $85/point (which we got with the discount incentive) 50 years of use is a great value. Yes, we'll be in our 90's by then....but we plan to be very spry 90-year-olds! We'll be leading the line for Tower of Terror and Mission Space and burning up Test Track!!

If I were doing this I would take SSR I at $90 and rent the 2004 points. This gets you to $80 and only pay prorated 2004 dues. However, I still think this is out of line when compared to a DVC I contract with banked points.

Pinkpiglettlover, I think the largest issue for you is the overall cost. How much have you spent over the course of the last 9 years? If you keep up at that rate, you will have paid for your DVC buy-in easily, then have another few decades of accomodation-free trips. Just a thought.

I've personally never stayed at the Concierge level at any WDW resorts, and I'm sure you are exposed to some very nice ammenities there that you don't get otherwise.....but I agree that the overall out-of-pocket-cost is much more logical through DVC! You can always stay at the Concierge level at WL (or any other resort) for a weekend at the beginning or tail end of a DVC trip. Actually, that'd probably help you be able to stay in a bigger DVC villa during the week, since you wouldn't have to use points for the weekend...

I say, why can't you have the best of BOTH worlds?!? DVC AND concierge? :sunny:

You might want to start a new thread with your concierge question. I bet you'll get a lot of feedback if people can find your question. :)

I once read somewhere that a member asked about concierge services at the Beach Club and was told that they could pay extra for concierge access during their stay. The fee quoted seemed really high to me--something like $50 or 75 per person, per day for the stay. And, I can't believe that the DVC rooms would be anywhere near the concierge lounge.

If you're used to staying in Deluxe accommodations, DVC would really save you a lot of money in the long run. Most people's calculations show that you will break-even on your initial investment in about 6-8 years. After that you get DECADES of trips at a fraction of the cost.

Just to illustrate, with just 150 points at Saratoga Springs, I could book a Studio for as many as 12 consecutive days (Sunday through the following Thursday) per year. If my initial investment were already paid off, the only remaining responsibility are annual dues. For 2004, my dues on 150 points amount to $570 per year. If I'm able to get 12 nights for that $570, my cost per night for lodging is only $47.50. No taxes. No additional fees.

Just some food for thought...

Thanks for the info on how to further decrease the per point price. Perhaps I was unclear with my statement about it being too rich for my blood. I don't think it's a bad value at $85/point, I just don't have that expendable income right now, unfortunately.:(

It really is a great resort though...we will hopefully be able to stay there at some point in our DVCing!
