The Gullah Fest in Beaufort is a fun day on the waterfront park. There are bands, food and crafts. You can also get a tour of this history laden city and it's surrounding islands. The only issue with events in Beaufort is the lack of parking.
We like to visit during an average week or weekend when you can park without much hassle and the restaurants aren't as crowded.
But, you would miss out on the cultural gathering.
If you really want to learn more about the unique Gullah people then the Fest would be one way to do it especially during the Gullah tour.

When is the festival. We were in HH this past Oct for our first stay and we loved it. I would like to go back this year.

Beaufort's fest is May 27-29.
Hilton Head has Gullah activities during the whole month of February.
