Vision Therapy Success Stories?

I was wondering if anyone has had any success with vision therapy. DS9 is going for VT 2x week. He's had 24 sessions and I don't see any changes (although he's met 5 goals). We saw the dr. yesterday and now he trying to tell me that you see gradual improvements and then all at once you will see great improvements. But the way he charted it that won't be for another 16-32 sessions Before DS started the initial term was for 32 session. I told him that it's getting difficult putting out $50 a week ($25 copay x 2x a week). If I was seeing some improvement, I wouldn't think twice about continuing. He said that I'm lucky because my insurance co. is paying. I'm really starting to feel ripped off.

I teach elem. spec. ed, so I have heard from a number of families who have either done, are doing, or thinking about doing vision therapy. I have heard of only a few cases where the parents really felt like it helped. I'm not all that familiar with what they do, exactly, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt. On the other hand, I have to wonder if it's the therapy that has helped or just the passage of time during the therapy which allowed the child the time he/she needed to mature and be ready to do what the schools are asking them to do/learn. Also a parent who is willing to help their child by paying for vision therapy also is likely trying to help the child in other ways like reading with them at night and practicing spelling words, help with homework, etc. I really don't want to make you feel like you wasted your money or got ripped off. It may be exactly what your child needs. I'm certainly no expert in this type of therapy, but I haven't seen any real, concrete scientific evidence that it works for every child. I do know that here in my town, the dr. that people are going to for VT seems to NEVER send anyone away telling them that their child doesn't need this therapy. Hmmmm....
