Visa Query

thanks guys.Im just off to have my bath tiggs. Checked everything 50 times over. He has to leave his phone at the trainstation in a locker as he is not allowed to take it in which is for security I suppose. Probably worrying for nothing.Anyway will let you know how he gets on.:thumbsup2

Please do! It's quite normal to be anxious - what you don't know is more worrying than what you do. Glad to hear you're having your bath now, but what happened to the wine? ;)

well he didnt get a visa:sad1: Cannot believe them bloody idiots. He has 2 months left on a 18 month ban and they say he has to have a medical. With the reports another £150 plus trainfare. When he has had that the passprt has to be couriered down to the embassy(another £30) and then courierd back. He was talking to a guy who had been in prison for 12 months last year for burglary and assault and he got a visa for 2 years. So annoyed.I wish we had never bothered after reading threads where people were never even stopped.
Tiggs I told you about my luck.Really upset that he has to go all the way down again for these idiots for something so silly.

I know you feel you wish you hadn't bothered right now, and I do think it is unfair, but imagine if he was turned around and put on a plane back to the UK for not having it. That would ruin the whole trip for everyone!

It's one heck of a lot of money though :scared1: They probably just want to do blood tests to check that he doesn't have high alcohol levels in his blood. Does he have to wait until the driving ban is lifted first or can he go ahead and do it now? He's not planning on driving in the US is he?

Be sure to tell him to be on the safe side and not to have a glass of wine or anything with his dinner the night before his medical. Once he has that visa it should take care of things for some years to come.

I'm so sorry you have to go though all this.

But I'm sticking to my guns: NO MORE BAD LUCK! ;)

So sorry to read this but much better than being turned back round when you get there. It will be worth it when you have it sorted!

I know but I just feel so bad for her. :sad1: I really need something to go beyond just right to balance things out. It's only fair.

I know. I was in a terrible state when DH went for his and can't imagine how I would have coped!!

We thought about going without but I just wasn't prepared to risk the long flight and the devastation of DD if we were turned back. Although now looking at the ESTA questions it looks like he would now be eligible - at least we have another 7 years left to decide.

Sending you all my best for a turn around in luck - just think of all the magic you are building up.

As per my orginal thread one of my friends had to get a visa because of drink driving. Although he was ban from driving for 12 mths which was completed last October 2009. He also had to pay for a medical - they asked him a few questions and he was in and out within 10 minutes. His details were passed to the embassey, and his passport was back within 10 days, stamped for 10 years.

So don't give up.

Crabbie, I am so sorry about your bad luck - I had wondered what the comments were all about on the ESTA thread, now it makes sense.

Hopefully Maureen's comments will give you some peace of mind. I know it's another spanner in the works of what should be a very relaxing run up to your trip, but once it is sorted you will have the trip of a lifetime I am sure. Keep us informed, we are all behind you willing you along :goodvibes
