Visa or not to Visa, That is the Question

Although I have read this hundreds of times,
please can you confirm that I only need a passport for my trip to the USA.

People at work keep winding me up saying I will not get in without a visa..................

Please say passport is ok.

As long as its a full UK machine readable passport and you have no criminal convictions you can travel on visa waiver programme.

I know this is a stupid question and I apologise in advance ( Paranoia working overtime) BUT ...
How do you know if your passport is machine readable ???

If its got a load of numbers along the bottom something like

0203669874556GBR1215456115919<<<<<<<<<<<<<

then its machine readable! My passport is nearly 10 years old and mine is ok so Im sure yours must be!

The only real chance that you WOULDN'T have a machine readable passport is if it had to issued in a foreign british embassy for emergency purposes or if you had been repatriated/asylum sseking etc. almost EVERYONE in the uk has a machine readable passport the media seem to like scaring people with this one!
