Ask for this discount at Walt Disney World

Posted by Kristin Ford on Oct 8, 2009 12:01:52 AM

I was in the Blizzard Beach gift shop over the weekend, getting ready to check out, when I asked my standard question: Do you give a passholder discount or have any other promotions right now? And that’s how I stumbled onto this unadvertised discount.

Guests with Disney Rewards Visa cards can get 10 percent off a merchandise purchase of $50 or more made with the card through Sept. 30, 2010. But you must ask for the discount; the cast member will not offer it. This deal has been in place at Downtown Disney’s World of Disney for some time, but it recently has been made available throughout the resort.

At the Walt Disney World® Resort, offer is valid only at select Walt Disney World Resort stores. The Disney Visa Rewards discount is not accepted at Walt Disney World Resort Operating Participant locations, including but not limited to, China, Japan, and Morocco pavilions at World Showcase in Epcot®, Arribas Brothers, Basin, Basin White, Cirque du Soleil, Curl by Sammy Duval, Ghiradelli, House of Blues, Hoypoloi, LEGO Imagination Center, Magic Masters, Magnetron, Niki Bryan Spas, Orlando Harley Davidson Store, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe, Richard Petty Driving Experience, Rubio Balloon Arts, SD Watersports, Sosa Cigar, Starabillias, Sunglass Icon, Surrey Bike Rental, T-Rex Café Shop, Wyland Galleries, The Disney Store, Disney’s Character Premiere, Disney’s Character Warehouse and any other locations or kiosks that are not owned and operated by the owners of the Walt Disney World® Resort. A $50 minimum pre-tax single transaction purchase is required to receive discount. Discount is not valid on purchases of ticket media, gift certificates, Disney gift cards, videos, DVDs and CDs, Disney Dollars, sundries, periodicals, digital and video cameras, disposable cameras, film, consumer electronics (e.g., CD players, TVs, DVD players), tobacco, alcohol, In-Park balloon vendors, Add-a-Dollar (Wildlife Conservation Fund), postage stamps, rentals (e.g. strollers, ECV, etc.), all Titleist and Cobra golf equipment, National brand fragrances, treatments and cosmetics, Personalization, Imaging and Photo Pass product, Lladro, Armani, Hummel, Swarovski Crystal, Walt Disney Classics Collection, other collectibles and select merchandise. May not be combined with any other discount, offer or promotion. Not valid on previous purchases.

There's been a Disney Visa discount at WDW for quite a while. It opened up to more store locations this year, but it's been around. Just go to http://www.disneyrewards.com and it'll give you details of all the "Theme Park Perks" you get with your card.

I reread that "perk" yesterday! Just hope I remember when I get there! Problem is, we usually can't get the kids to agree to buy at the same stores so racking up $50 can be tough sometimes! Well, not tough for them, if we allowed it!

We were there in September and the CM at World of Disney would not let me use this if I was using my rewards card. I checked it out on the site when I got back and teh discount is valid if you use the VISA or the Rewards card. Keep that in mind for those using the rewards card.

The discount is also no good if you charge purchases on your room card, then pay using the Disney Visa. You have to use the Disney Visa, and ask for the discount, for each purchase separately at each store. Some items (music and movies) and some stores are not eligible.
