Yesterday my dd got a raised red rash that itched along her jaw line and on parts of her arms and arm pits. We thought it was an allergic reaction and gave her benadryl. Now I have it and it's worst then hers and itches like crazy. Hers itched too. I'm guessing it's some type of virus. Any ideas? Dr won't be open til Tues.

any answers??

My 12month old DS woke up with a rash all over his BELLY only and on his legs and a bit on his arms! it's the same today as yesterday..any ideas??

i can tell you that the liquid benadryl wasn't helping but the cream has helped some.

Aveeno has a lotion/cream for itching. I can't remember the exact name, but it's pink. I find that it works better than Benadryl.

I don't know... there is weird stuff going around. Yesterday, my 11 yr. old woke up complaining of a headache. He had a mild temperature and spent the whole day in bed. He woke up this morning feeling well. :confused3 My DD, earlier in the week, had stomach pains, lack of appetite and diarrhea. It lasted about 2 days. :confused3 :confused3

Anyway, feel better soon.

It could be hives as a reaction to a seperate virus. Some people get hives as a reaction to viruses, and some viruses inspire hives more than others. Did the rash go away a little with Benadryl?

liquid benadryl didn't seem to do anything but the cream is making it itch less.

nobody is open now, have to wait til am if they're open tomorrow. When my kids were younger I had lots of things for itches and rashes.
Now i'm getting a cough so i'd be they're connected.

5ths disease will cause a rash--but you usually have a fever first.

That's the only virus I know of.

Hope you feel better--they have the allergy creams that might work as well if it is just an allergic reaction to something.

there is also an AVeeno Bath oatmeal type thing and it works great, but now that he's trying to sleep he keeps waking up :sad1:

Do you have baking soda? Make a baking soda paste until you can get to the store. Also baggy clothes. I got hives when I was young and would wear one of my Moms big loose cotton T-shirts.

ETA-Cake it on. It does help. :)

It sounds like 5th's Disease except like a previous poster said, usually you have a fever with that. It could be an allergic reaction, or a yeast infection. Or my DD has had a rash with a bronchial kind of cough called Micoplasma. It could be that. I'd try benegryl or oatmeal bath to cool it and keep the itch down. Or it could be Scarlet Fever, which is a form of Strep.

It is probably just one of the many viruses going around...
Try aveeno cream, oatmeal bath, calamine lotion.... anything like what you would use for chicken pox to ease the itching.
My friend got a rash from the strep virus...took a long time for it to go away.:confused3
Hope its not like that though as she had to go to a tanning bed for quite some time for it to get looking even the slightest bit better
