Virtual Membership Card for spouse

This will probably be 80% rant, 20% question . My wife has always just used her blue membership card for discounts and stores etc. I successfully got my MDE/phone set up with my virtual card but my understanding is the only way she can also do that is to get a DVC account created and then also get an MDE account created. I am not looking forward to getting that set up, making sure everything remains linked for the entire family, nothing for our two trips this summer get messed up, etc. [End rant part of post]

[start question porting of post] We will be activating sorcerer annual passes when we arrive which I believe will include them giving us 4 physical cards. Are the annual pass discounts virtually identical to DVC? Assuming yes, I guess she can just use that physical AP card for discounts. Its mostly the discounts she uses her blue DVC card for. For anything else requiring DVC membership she just needs to make sure I'm with. (Club entrance, special events, etc)

edit--- And now I see a few threads down that you no longer need to go to guest services to activate the annual pass. Will they still offer physical cards if we want them?

Most of the discounts are the same, but there are a few that DVC is better. There are now reports, though, that CM's are expecting to see the Magic Mobile pass that shows the discount for the AP that way as well.

At this point, I would get that set up...once it is set up, and she has her DVC - Y, and Annual listed...then she can forget its even there....she doesn't have to use it...

It was pretty annoying to have to get my own MDE in order to acquire the digital blue.

For such a long-standing corporation, Disney does some things inconveniently and curiously.

They should ask all of us here on Da DIS. We’d tell ‘em how to do these things right.

As Sandi says, once she gets her MDE and DVC accounts set up and her DVC-Y in her MagicMobile, she never has to use them again.

However, you will need to update your MDE account to connect with her via her MDE account (so that your MDE knows she's the same person who used to be "managed by you"), because that's where her AP will reside. Once you're linked to her via her MDE, you'll be able to do everything that you now do via your MDE account. And if desired, she can log into your MDE account in order to do things, even if you're logged into it at the same time.

I do miss the convenience of the physical cards (both AP and DVC). There is definitely something to be said for the powers of analog.

Don’t worry about the ANNUAL. It’s a common error on the part of MagicMobile, won’t cause any problems.

It should update to show the DVC Y. If it doesn’t, some have deleted and uploaded it again.

I found the little i in a circle button. When I hit that it shows both for me. My wife just shows the annual pass. I don’t know if she has ever actually logged into her DCV dashboard. Will have to work on hers.

Hers will only show it if she has her own DVC and MDE set up. She doesn’t need to use those but does have to get them set up in order for the system to pull her as DVC.

Yeah, I think that is the issue. She didn’t setup her DVC access. We will have to call member services to get the setuo codes and stuff.

Ugh, reading this thread makes me know I'm going to have an issue. I'm not sure I have my virtual card in my account yet and DH doesn't have his own MDE, DVC or a smart phone. We have unactivated APs that we won't be using for a few years. We each have 2 physical blue cards but they aren't worth anything anymore?

We have unactivated APs that we won't be using for a few years. We each have 2 physical blue cards but they aren't worth anything anymore?

The physical cards expired end of 2021. You now need your digital card to access discounts, etc. so you need to get the DVC and MDE set up for both of you.

On my apple, to actually see where it says DVC-Y, the only way I have found is to go into the actual wallet app, click on the card, then hit the i in a circle and it pops up.

DVC-Y is the notation that you are eligible for membership extras.
