I will be graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in Dramatic Art in 2011. DH and I are looking at moving to Northern VA and I am looking into alternative routes to Virginia teaching licensure, specifically completing the professional studies courses while teaching middle or high school drama provisionally. I know there are quite a few teachers on the DIS, so has anyone done this in VA (especially recently) and do you have insights for the process?

I'm not a teacher but I suggest that you go to the city-data forum specific for Northern VA. VERY good information there on just about anything you ask.

You can also checkout the virginia teachers website (I think it is VEA, not sure the exact address). Virginia doesn't have a teaching degree, it's a minor. DD finally ended up at Mary Baldwin, she took all her classes online. This was after she attended Longwood and VCU. MB was the most helpful. Good luck, we need more teachers.
