Hi,
We are planning a trip for late December into January to Virginia Beach. We will probably stay a month.

Does anyone know of any good, reasonably priced condos or hotels, preferrable on the ocean?

Thanks so much for any help with this!

You can probably find just about anything dirt cheap that time of year. This may be a silly question but do you realize how cold VA is in January? That's definitely winter here, it will be in the 40s most days and we may see snow (we did last year!)

Siebert Realty and Sandbridge Realty are 2 big rental companies.

I'm sure you realize it's cold in Va Beach in the winter, but the closer you are to the ocean, man, the wind will tear you apart!!! The view would be magnificent, but just be aware the wind is biting.

Well, actually this information is for my parents. They aren't really going for the warm temps., but I don't know if they remember it being that cold. They just remember really liking it and are looking for a winter get-a-way. They aren't beach people, my Dad does like to walk some. My Mom just likes a nice view and needs an internet connection!

Anywhere a little warmer anyone might suggest?

VBRO and homeaway - The Eastern Shore (Cape Charles) will be REALLY cheap that time of year.

I've lived in the area for 17 years now. The temps are hit and miss. It usually isn't unbearable. (Last year is an exception, as the the previous time of lasting snow in the area was 6 years ago. It fact, there have been many Christmas that it was 65+ degrees.) It actually doesn't usually get cold (sustained 30s) until into January. It will be REALLY windy on the oceanfront. It will be chilly in December.

Maybe they could try around Myrtle Beach / Charleston, SC? Temps will be a little better.

Strongly suggest Hilton Head. I've googled winter rates before, and it looks like it's very affodable.

I would check out Tripadvisor for hotels in the resort area, my MIL likes to stay at the Barclay Towers when they visit over Christmas. If you stay at the oceanfront they have the boardwalk done up for a drive through christmas light show. Your dad may like to walk on the boardwalk during the day and some of the stores are opened during the winter and have some good deals. If they are looking for something more secluded then I would suggest as someone else did renting a house maybe at Sandbridge (Siebert & Sandbridge realty). As far as temps, well who knows:confused3 It could be 40 or 70, December is really hard to predict. I would bank on being more on the cold side though. The Eastern Shore is north of us, so I don't think the temps there would be much different, maybe colder.

If they want somewhere warmer, tell them to go to Florida. That would be my choice.:rolleyes1

If you're looking for warm, VA in January is not it. The winter temp is about 40 and rainy. You might be lucky and get a day in there where it's 50s or so. "Snow" here is usually a flurry to a dusting at most, but January and February are the best bets for that. I usually encourage people to travel here, but if you're looking for warm in January you'll be sorely disappointed.
