This past Tuesday I went shopping at Wall-Mart for a New Cell Phone to replace my Crappy Tracfone. I switched from Tracfone to Virgin Mobile Which has better Phones than Tracfone. Both Tracfone and Virgin Mobile are both prepaid wireless Companies. Both reqiures Customers to Buy Prepaid Cards and add minutes to their Phones Tracfone's Prepaid Cards start out at $20 for a 60 minute Card to A 200 Minute card at $40. Virgin Mobile's Prepaid card called Top out Card Start Out at $20 for a 200 Minute Card to A 5000 Minute Card for $50 which in My opinion Virgin Mobile is better than Tracfone. My Virgin Mobile Phone is made by LG called the LG Flare. Its a small Flip Phone. It has 9 Ringtones that play Hip Hop Music. Most of my old Phone Ringtones were Cheesy. Ranging from Animal sounds like Roosters to frogs and Cheesy Music. As far as the Signal strengh The Phone i have now has excellent Signal Strengh which is bitter than Tracfone. Sooo Anyone who is with Tracfone or Virgin Mobile or any other Wireless Company what 's your Opinion about your Cell phone Company you are with :thumbsup2

Which Tracfone did you have? Some of them are really junk, but I got the LG model and it works just fine for what I need.

I had a Nokia 1112 Phone. It was A Better Phone than I started out on but the Ringtones were Cheesy and the signal was Hit and Miss. The LG Model I have for Virgin Mobile is soo lighweight that I forget that I hav it on my belt in a phone pouch untill it rings. I am still learning to use the Phone

FWIW my contract w/ verizon is up in September. I am eligible for an upgrade at the end of May (yeah that doesn't make sense to me either). I am seriously considering http://boostmobile.com/.
You do have to purchase a phone, but I'm ok w/ spending under 100 bucks. Their 50/month everything plan appeals to me.

Oh.. and I would LOVE an IPhone (I have an IPod Touch aleady), but I cannot justify the cost.

FYI... Verizon's contract end date and the date you become eligible to upgrade are not synonymous.

While you have to fulfill the entire 24 months before you are out of the contract, you can upgrade at 20 months into your contract (which then renews for another 24 months).

I think Verizon does this so that they can hook you for another 24 months before you have no contract. Once you are out of a contract, you might be less likely to renew.

Call me stupid but Virgin Mobile is outside the UK? Virgin used to be HUGE here, but alas no more, I'm sure Branson even had his own Cola...

I think Virgin Mobile is part of the Virgin group wich includes Virgin Megastore, Virgin Atlantic. Virgian came from Britain But Virgin Mobile is also in the UK Here is the website www.virgin.com/mobile Hope this works for you

Having read a few phone threads on the boards and it seems the USA is miles behind the UK in terms of mobile (cell) phones in both handsets and tariffs etc?
Anyone know why this is? It's normally us Brits who get the poorer deal on pretty much everything else!

:goodvibes

It all depends on where you live/use your phone...

Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network, meaning you have coverage in nearly every major market.

As for Tracfone, they use a variety of networks in different parts of the country -- so what may be a great signal in one part of the country could be a bad signal, elsewhere.
