Almost time to book my seats on next years flight.

Do Virgin charge to book seats ?

Also, is it preferable to be at the front or rear of plane ie, for ease getting off or choice of food etc.

2 Adults and 2 kids so will try to get 3 on the side and the middle one to get two aisle seats.

Thanks all

We have flown with virgin on numerous occasions and have never been charged to pre-book our seats.
Usually we sit round about the middle of the plane and have always had full choice of meals.
If we go with my parents we sit behind each other.

No charge to pre book but they do sometimes charge if you want the emergency exit aisle seats, but they can only be given at actual checkin!
As for where to sit difficult but to the rear of the plane as it narrows the configuration means the window side has two rather than three seats, so could possibly get 2 lots of 2 one behind the other.

Virgin do not charge for seat requests, but remember they are requests not a booked seat and it can be changed by Virgin. Its best to keep an eye on it on their website under manage booking to make sure they have not been moved.

Very good point there and they can be changed at anytime right up to departure, for operational reasons, but having said that unlikely that they will be changed.

If you're going in ecomony, we've sat in 31a b c. These are about 5 rows from the door. The crew let first class and Pe off first, and then it's the folk in the cheaper seats. So we got off the plane fairly quickly.

This time I asked for 30a, b and c. Ideally, I wanted 27, but you can only get these on the day at the airport. These are the ones by the doors, but there are only 3.

You will be fine with 30 or 31 if that helps.

If you book with an agent, you are usually told to allow 2 weeks between booking and reserving your seats. If you book direct, you'll be able to reserve then.

Don't forget the kiddie meals if you want them

The majority of seats in Economy are 3-4-3 - so if you got 4 seats in the middle you would have effectively 2 aisle seats.

I always try to keep a fair distance from the toilets. There is normally a queue towards the rear which would annoy me if they were waiting around looking at my TV monitor while i try to eat

In everyone's opinion it is better for 4 to sit in the middle rows or would you suggest 2 in front 2 behind or 3 and 1 otherside of aisle? Does it feel a bit claustrophobic sitting in the middle seats, just got the feeling I'd like to be able to see out of the windows!!! Got to contact Virgin as we have a special needs requirement whereby we must be sitting together although I believe they will try and sit families together anyway.

Personally I would rather have the 4 together than 3/1.
They do always try and sit people together, not always possible and we found that in Premium Economy recently where Julie & Josh were sat near the window in 2 seats, and I was sat in the middle in an aisle seat.

We have done a 2+2 at the rear of the plane and 4 in the middle. Both have their good points. The 2+2 seats at the rear of the plane give you some space between the window seat and the side of the plane (although this must be clear during takeoff and landing).

Biggest downside of sitting in 2+2 is it's difficult to talk with each other. When we sat 4 in the middle it was easier to talk. If you sit on the aisle seats in the middle it's not too claustaphobic - although if the person in front reclines any seat gets a bit claustaphobic :)

Another thing I just thought of and 1 big disadvantage we had this August.
With Joshua being Autistic we were as usual allocated bulkhead seats in economy on our flight to Orlando.
Leg room was great but when Josh was ill later on and wanted to sleep it was a real handicap not being able to pull the armrest's up.
We found that also to be a problem, surprisingly, when he also struggled to get comfortable in the PE seats we had booked for the return flight.

Hence if we had just gone for the normal seats in Economy both ways, we would have had much less leg-room but at least been able to adjust the arm rests so he could lie down (or at least lie on us!).

Anyone else had similar experiences?
