Hi Guys

A couple of quick questions about baggage on Virgin Atlantic.

This time around we are planning to take our own car seat with us for our little boy - I know that a car seat can be carried free of charge over and above the baggage allowance - we are going to use the Downtown Disney check-in facility for our return flights but will obviously need to retain the car seat until we arrive at the airport - can we check the car seat at the gate (as we do with the buggy) or would we have to go through the departure check-in desks !

Our boy also has a Trunki which he is very excited about taking along on the journey - the Trunki website states that the case is approved as hand luggage - do Virgin consider this as acceptable carry on baggage !

Thanks

My DD is now 8 so it's been a while since I took a car seat on VA.

Trunkies are sooooo cool!!! How old is your son? Does he get his own baggage allowance? As long as it fits within the dimensions for hand luggage as per the VA website (and a Trunki is much smaller) then it can go as hand luggage. I doubt you will load the little guys cabin baggage over 6 kg so you will be fine with weight too.

How are you getting to the airport? If you use a taxi you can arrange for them to provide a car seat for on the way there. If you have your own car, you may be able to arrange a car seat through them, but unsure whether they charge per day or are obligated to provide one. If you can get one thrown in, you could leave it at your hotel and then put it in the car when you check in your own seat with your baggage, if that makes sense. I would, in the first instance, email VA and ask. They are very good at promptly responding and I keep my replies from them to take to the airport if I am concerned about any dubiety. Then you have it on paper. I have checked the infant seat in at the gate, but I take it your son is in the next stage so not as portable.

Hiya
We took our little boy last year, with his own car seat and we did the DTD check in, we told them we had a car seat and the check in staff told us it was fine to keep for thew ride to the airport, all they did was give us a big clear bag and a luggage sticker thing, and told us to bag it up when we get to the airport and where to stick the sticker, and then we left it at baggage drop (to the left of check at MCO, if i remember rightly) and that was it, it is really easy, hope that makes sense.

We took a trunki as hand luggage on Virgin when we went no problems at all.

We took our car seat (Maxi Cosi Prori XP) with us last year and used it in the car to get to the airport after the Downtown Disney check in. We weren't given a bag but had the luggage label given to us for a drop off at the gate with the pushchair.

Your Trunki is fine as hand luggage, we are considering the Gruffalo one for DS2 they weren't out when DS1 was little as he would have loved one.
