Hello

I booked my holiday before Virgin changed the weight limit on your suitcases, but I have an email that states that because I booked early I can still have the full 32kg (not that I think I will use all of it...but just in case :rolleyes1 )

So do you think having a printed copy of this email is enough evidence if I get questioned at the airport?

I think some people on the DIS have also been honoured the full 32kg bagging allowance...what are you doing? :confused3

Take the email with you but I don't think you'll have any problem, your confirmation will show the date of booking your holiday so I don't reckon anyone will argue with you

What's the new limit? And when did they change it? I'm kinda mildly freaking here...

It used to be 2 cases at 32kg per case. From April 1st this year it's still 2 case but 23kg per case for all bookings made from that date.

There is also a limit on size too. We have always taken 2 cases around 28-30kg Now we have just bought 3 cases we will be filling them to around 20-22kg each. So I am not happy will have to pull along extra weight and 3 instead of 2, DW is very happy she can take extra clothes.
If everyone does the same this will be a bad rule by Virgin, the planes will be a lot heavier and cost more for fuel, no doubt fuel supplements will be rising again.

This is from my eticket.
Check In Baggage Allowance
Adult/Child baggage allowance - Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 23kg (50lbs). When added together, the three dimensions of any piece of luggage must not exceed 158cm (62in).

I wo't take anywhere near as much as the total baggage allowance for the 4 of us but have one big case which will no doubt be over 23kg (the weight won't be a problem I just don't want to take loads of cases). My final invoice says holidays booked BEFORE 1 April 2006 get 32 kg so I'm taking my original confirmation (from over a year ago) and if they query one of my bags being over I'm standing my ground :confused3

you wont have any problems , when we checked in at DD , i was waiting on them saying about the weight but everything was fine , the guy beside me said to them before checking his cases in that his hol was booked prior to the weight change and they said that was fine, but they didnt mention it

Not really as instead of 2 cases at 32kg per person you are allowed 2 cases of upto 23kg per person! I think It will swing in roundabouts really as although each case will be lighter by 10kg or so - there will probably be more cases on the plane.

Just worked it out on our own cases, always taken 2 cases before and total weight has never been above 59kg. We go in a few days and now taking 3 cases and they total 65kg. 6kg more than we have ever taken before, maybe some will take less but I suspect more cases and more weight.

That will be true in a lot of cases, especially as some suitcases weigh a bit in themselves! i just know alot of people get charged excess baggage even on two lots of 32kg per person!!! Thats where they need to clamp down i guess.

To be honest though if the fuel prices keep going up with all the recent conflicts etc we could take no luggage and the fuel supplements would still go up.

How do I get that letter about the weight limit?

My Rolling Adventure Duffle is 66 inches combined. I absolutely love VA Premium Economy, but if they think I am buying new luggage just to fly with them, they are wrong. :sad2:

The max size of luggage for any class of travel is 62 inches (combining h x w x d) but if you have travelled with that case on VA before then it should be no problem unless someone goes out of their way to measure it.
BTW PE still get 2 x 32kg :)

Thanks Claire! You have made my day. We came back from Boston with 4 packed full. I always stock up when I go home to visit family. I won't be bringing so much back with me from WDW. :)

No problem we came back from the West Coast three weeks ago and nearly maxed out at 4 bags betwen the 2 of us, combined weight 112kg :teeth: We were close with one as it weighed 31kg  Um yes and that was mine!!

This is why I use packing cubes and space saver bags. I can easily move things from one bag to another if I get to the airport and one bag is too heavy and one underweight. (This happened to me once in Portland, Maine.) It's not so I can fit more stuff in, honest. :lmao:

We do you take with you? :confused3 :rotfl2:
This trip will be the most weight we have ever taken, 3 adults total 65kg for 25 nights. Some of this is because we are doing 4 night cruise or we could have cut down more.

It wasn't what we took with us but what we brought home!!

Hi wayneg

I need to do the same - go from two HUGE cases to three smaller ones (between two of us).

So am looking for three to stay under 23kg each. May I ask what dimensions your new cases are? Would help me gauge what I need to get... :). Did you find a good lightweight case? If so, which case did you get?

Thanks,
Boo
