I did a VIP tour a really long time ago when it cost a lot less. Early in the day we met in a room off to the right after entering Universal Studios. We were in a group with other people. They had a few snacks while we waited for everyone (water...maybe a cookie...I can't remember, not a big deal though). We were taken on a tour that included a many of the attractions plus a behind the scenes look at a sound stage. Seems like we saw a large warehouse and a plane they used for some movies. They explained green screen. We did NOT have time to see any characters or get a photo or autograph.
While the tour showed a little behind the scenes and took you to the front of the line for some attractions, I actually didn't like having to tour the park on their schedule and seeing the attractions in the order the guide wanted us to see them. And it really annoyed me that we didn't get to see the characters. Maybe they have changed that now?
Ultimately, I would not do it again, even if the price was the same as long ago...and i certainly would not do it now.
If you stay on sight you have Express pass anyway. and you can tour at your own pace, and see what you want to see, and stop for characters if you want, or look at a gift shop, etc... The tour really limits you. Those are my thoughts.
