VIP to skip the lines

I think both should discontinue V.I.P. passes if you can't wait in line with us poor unfortunate misguided undeserving low life's go some where else. I'm a retired state trooper and it offends me that people who are well to do expect special treatment. I dedicated 33 years of my life helping, protecting, and saving people and I don't expect any special treatment. I have very little respect for V.I.Ps other than having money what have they done to make this world a better place.

Sure, and we should stop making Cadillacs, no more first class airline tickets, close all fine dining establishments, etc. etc.

As far as making the world a better place, I much prefer living in a world where electronics exist and provide so many wonderful and life saving opportunities, where medicine is making advances that seemed complete science fiction just a decade ago, and about a million other things that have made the world a better place in large part thanks to people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, among countless other wealthy people.

I didn't post this to be confrontational, I have no idea how and why people are so bitter and jealous just because someone else has the means to do something they do not. I really just found it bizarre that (1) anyone cares and (2) the author completely lied when comparing the two theme parks.

I have too agree with Rip on this one. I'm from Canada, but isn't Capitalism what America stands for? Providing a service to people willing to pay for it, I see nothing wrong with this.

On a side note, where I'm from Police Officers get paid very well. Most make close to $100k a year and the ones that retire with a full pension live very comfortably.

I guess you are one of the privileged people and you are confrontational I have dealt with many like you. I have nothing to say but enjoy your life.

Well, if you take the whole "controversy" line of thought to its logical conclusion, we shouldn't have theme parks or anything else that someone, somewhere can't afford. There are certainly millions of people just in the US that will never set foot in any major theme park simply because they can't afford to. Why should we expect to be able to?

Yes, I'm "privileged". I spent 8 years and went $100K in debt while working 2 part time jobs in order to be able to make a good salary at a job where I put in an average of 60-70 hours a week and work 3 of every 4 weekends. I stay onsite at Universal for the convenience and the perks, and fortunately I earn enough to do so. My father was "privileged" enough to raise 3 kids on around $25K a year, hence the necessity that I borrow all of the money to go to college.

And no, I wasn't confrontational at all, but your initial post certainly was both confrontational and extremely bitter.

Lastly, thank you. I enjoy it very much.

I don't see how you can be upset about a few people here and there getting on the ride before you. If it's open to everyone to purchase, it's fair.

Yeah... not so much anymore... :rolleyes1 ... but that's as political as I'll get!

Rip, agree with everything you said.

First off, who cares? Second, why dishonestly say Disney doesn't do this in the beginning of the article and then admit later that in fact Disney not only does have the same essential concept, but it is far, far more expensive than what Universal is doing.

The article is really misleading, the park has been doing this for a very long time, many years. It's a tour guide that takes you into areas that otherwise can't handle the crowds (like in the prop warehouse). I did this at uni hollywood 8 years ago, and the front of the line aspect was the least interesting part about it. The walkabout tour of the backlot and prop warehouse were much more interesting.

I agree, they apparently added more perks and bumped the price but both parks have been doing this for a long time.

Rip, I agree with you. I think it's silly how the article gave Disney a pass because its VIP tour is so expensive only the "truly rich" can afford it.

I don't see how having a VIP option is "unfair". That means the entire existence of luxury brands and premium services is unfair simply because others can't afford them. I can't imagine being offended simply because someone can afford something that I can't.

Yep, like I said earlier, taken to its logical conclusion we should just get rid of everything other than bare necessities since there are always going to be those that can't afford <insert whatever here>.

Yes I don't like this thing with rich people skipping cues with VIP passes as its not fair.

Also there has been some very low super rich people exploiting poor and disabled kids to jump queues which is plain wrong.

Actually that had nothing to do with kids, there is a legitimate tour guide that also happens to be disabled that provided tours. Absolutely nothing at all wrong, against policy, or immoral about it. Should she not be allowed to provide her services simply because she's disabled?

There's debate about whether or not this is even true. I don't think it's ethical, but it is a service. They are disabled adult tour guides (not kids) that are offering their services for a steep price which some choose to purchase. You can't exploit someone for a service they offer.

I don't even think it's unethical. She's legitimately disabled and Disney provides for those with certain disabilities the ability to avoid many of the long waits*.

*Presumably, I've actually heard that the whole "skipping to the front" for those with disabilities is largely a myth.

....other than having money what have they done to make this world a better place.

I don’t know, and neither do you. Maybe that VIP family of 3 used to be a family of 4 until one of their children died of Leukemia. Maybe they donate thousands of dollars to Make A Wish every year because they want to help someone going through a similar situation. Maybe they are the ones on a “Make A Wish” trip.
