Today I got an email from iTunes for a $60 invoice--I was ready to pummel DS, when I realized I had not entered my PW recently...and I KNOW he doesn't have it/know it...then I got looking at the purchases...low & behold, there were budget apps, google calender apps--NOTHING a 15yo is interested in! So I contacted iTUnes (it could take 24 hrs...)....then noticed ANOTHER invoice for $25 from 3AM this morning--well I was up at 3AM & DS wasn't, so I KNOW it wasn't us (no one else uses the account)
WELL...did a search here, and come to find out their third party CC site--IS NOT SECURE--OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have deleted my CC info from iTunes & will only use iTUnes cards from now on...debating if I need to cancel our card--OF COURSE we have 2 trips in the next month & we use no other cc---ARGHHHHHHHH! Guess better to call today & get a new one ASAP (my folks are with us next week, so if worse comes to worse, they can cover the hotel & we can pay them later...)
RUN--GO--
(this & I have an interview in 2 hours...and class out of town immediately after) OMG!

My best friend's debit card info was stolen off of Itunes as well - charges totalled over $560 in 3 days.

It was a huge headache for her, but it eventually was sorted out and the money put back in her account.

Well according to the above article it is not I-tunes but thieves that are trying to verify CC they already have. Best to cancel the card by calling your CC provider.

Sorry this happened. Interesting, too. I'll have to talk to my husband about this since his credit card is the one on there. You aren't alone.

Your link made me realize I needed to cancel this card. I am pretty sure they got the number from iTunes...I am pretty anal about only using secure sites for any online purchases (of which I have made few lately). And I THINK our firewall is pretty good....how do I check that??!!
But they must have access to my iTunes account, as they were all made thru my account, which requires a password to access.
Bless Discover--they are overnighting the card for nothing. PHEW! I can deal w/ the small $85 headache...cannot imagine if I was on vacation & not checking my email daily... (like 2 weeks ago!!)

Ok, guess I'm being dense here, but if the CC thieves are using iTunes to test the stolen CC numbers, how are they getting into a person's account (they would need their ID and Password) if all they have is the CC number?

Edited to add: DOH - they are using the stolen CC numbers on other accounts! Ok - got that.

I just had this EXACT thing happen last Friday. Over $200 in iPad app purchases, and I don't have an iPad.... We took all personal info off our itunes acct, and contacted them about the fraudulant charges at which point they suspended our acct. And our cc company must have some good fraud detection programs in place because they contacted us immediately as well when the charges hit. Once we told cc these were fradulant charges, they close the acct and re-issued us new cards.

HUGE pain in the behind, as we have a lot of automated bills charged directly to the card so that we can rack up Disney Dollars!!

I guess for itunes I'm going to start going the gift card route and leave our card number off the acct. Right now our acct is suspended until we decide to reactivate it.

There are definitely scammers figuring out how to breach itunes security. All of our charges occurred overnight, so I'm guessing the individuals are probably overseas.

But that's not what the OP said - he said he got the invoice receipt from iTunes in his e-mail. That would mean that the purchases were made THROUGH his account, not just using his credit card. That would require the password (unless you use that 1 click thing - maybe that doesn't ask for your password every time - I'm not sure).

If they were setting up a new iTunes account to use with the OP's credit card to test out charges, the OP wouldn't get that automated invoice from iTunes, but would only see charges on your credit card statement.

Then it's not really an issue of the CC being stolen... but of the iTunes account being hacked (and thus the CC is compromised since it is attached to it).

OP have you run a virus scan on your computer since this has happened? Have you scanned for Malware?

I wanted to say thanks for the heads up both DH and I have our own iTunes accounts and different CC attached to them. We took off both CC immediately and are going to only use gift cards from now on.

Same thing happened to me, except there would be $2 random charges from the Apple Store. Amex actually called me to ask if I had made these purchases and then sent me a new CC when I didn't.

It's for these reasons that I'll only use gift cards with I-tunes...It seems like an easier way to keep my information secure

Ok this is a real stupid question. I don't have an ipod know nothing about downloading songs...but my DD14 has one and when she set up the account she did put in my credit card number. Well we have no idea how to log in and find our personal info. She says when she buys a song she just plugs in her ipod and itunes pops up...so where do i go can someone post a link to the log in page. Geez I hope I know the user name and password. I do get the emails when she buys songs but she only uses gift cards that she buys. But I'm thinking my credit card might be stored out there from when she set up the account ages ago. Thanks

Go to the ITunes web page, and you need to look up your personal information. If you cannot remember your UserID and password, ask for it, and they should e-mail you the info. This way, you can look at your account an d see what is on there.

ITunes knew they had a problem 4 years ago. My account was hacked into 4 years ago, and luckily my cc called me right away and asked if I made an ITunes purchase. My cc company told me they have the worst secrure site.

Thanks for the heads up I have my itunes account link to my paypal that way they can't get to my cc. Discovery should be able to refund your money since you didn't do you charges. We had this problem with our debit card 2 years ago we got charge for as seen on TV thing that when you call they never picked up your call. Horrible scam had no idea how they got a hold of our credit card number.

My itunes account was hacked into on June 8th. I immediately cancelled my CC and am now in the process of getting the charges reversed. What a pain!

Is your paypal linked to your bank account? I read today of someone having that & the hackers cleaned out their account:scared1:And debit cards do NOT offer the same fraud protection as credit cards--you could be out of luck.

Yes, I have Webroot & run it regularly--again this AM!

From my bit of investigating today, it seems there has been a flurry lately & it is an iTunes problem. But I was not willing to find out when they maxed out my credit card!!

Run Avast! It's free and one of the best antivirus programs out there (as suggested by all the computer builders, programmers, and gamers I hang out with).

The part where they have appeared to use your own account is what is bothering me. This means they somehow accessed that specific account. I would be worried about that as well as the CC information.

We recently had our paypal hacked, 2 seperate charges of $85 and $66 and it was linked to our bank account. I didn't know this about Itunes, so thanks for the heads up on that! I already deleted my cc from Itunes.
