So as most of you know, I am brand new to this. Ironed on my first shirts last night and planned to do the vinegar wash tonight.

I have read on here that some people recommend it and some have never done it. I am trying to get a consensus before I do it tonight.

For those that do not do it, do the designs run? I think my transfers say to wait 24 hours to wash in cold water after ironing the transfer and dry with some heat. No mention of adding vinegar.

Thoughts? What do all of you experts do? :confused3

THANK YOU

I have never done it and never had a problem with the transfers running. I have only used Avery and ebay dark transfers. I follow the directions on the transfer packaging exactly. :goodvibes

Do you wash the shirts at all after ironing on the transfers and before you wear them or just after the first time they are worn?

Thank you so much for your input on this ... I really am not sure what I want to do!

I've waited to wash until after they are worn.

I also never do the pre steps (vinegar and before wash) and never had a problem with the shirts I do not however fully dry my shirts, usually just for 5 minutes in the dryer and hang dry them, I had shirts that after 4ys they still look good , one thing that I do is the pressing hard with the iron when I do the transfer, I also use avery paper, but had good luck with the officemax brand, I used the cheap brand that target used to sell but do not see them anymore and they were really good too.

Thank you for the input. I am leaning towards not doing it but I would sure be mad if they shirts ran in the inevitable rain I know we will have in Disney!

I never had a shirt running on me (knock on wood) but at Disney we always had the rain ponchos and it helps with staying dry

I made this shirt for our school parents and on that day it rained really hard( I had the tshirt on for the parents to see)
this picture was taking after I wore it and washed it and as you can see the colors look great and no running, specially with the red which I was concern but no problems

I was the one who originally suggested the vinegar wash. However, I don't usually do it anymore. Your transfers should not need it if they were purchased recently. The only reason I suggested it was the person's shirts ran really bad. I don't know what brand she was using. The only time I set with a vinegar wash now is if I paint on it (or have it airbrushed). Somehow it got established that it always had to be done and it doesn't hurt anything and it just might help. For some, it's like insurance, since you really don't know which brands run and which ones don't.

Make sense?

It makes perfect sense! Thank you! :cloud9:

Also note that you shouldn't add fabric softener to the wash. I think the designs adhere better without the fabric softener.
