We are staying at the VWL for the first time and are not familiar with the layout of the Villas. Does anyone have any room recommendations and why? We are staying in a one bedroom so laundry is not an issue, the kids like the pool but since it will be February we are not too sure the pool will be an issue either!

Room location is probably less of an issue at VWL than any other resort. The picture below shows the entire resort (red roof). It shows how small the resort is, so even the farthest rooms are only about 10 villas from the elevator. And the views, appropriately enough, are of trees from virtually every room. There are a couple of rooms at the far end that overlook the maintenance area (fondly referred to as the Dumpster View), so you could ask to be close to the elevators to try to avoid those. But in general, most room views and access are pretty similar.

I think you'll really enjoy VWL. Take the time to explore the Lodge and the various nooks and crannies that make it such a relaxing place.

Thank you, we have stayed at all the other DVC resorts on property and have had that 'room' in a couple of them. That 'room' is the one just down the hallway 30-40 miles, one more turn, one more turn, one more turn .......almost there!!!!

Agree with Granny: pretty much any room has a similar view to another, and that view is mostly of trees. However, as spiceycat suggests, the views of the lake, though spotty, are slightly better than the tree views from the front of the Villas which face the bus stop (though you can't really see it). All views are relaxing, which is my favorite thing about the overall ambience of VWL--it's a place you can truly unwind at the end of a busy park day. You can walk the trails from VWL to FW, rent a bike, sit on the beach at night and watch EWP, or relax in the Hidden Springs hot tub. Wherever you wind up, the experience will be wonderful. :thumbsup2

VWL was the highlight of our recent trip. We fell in love the resort and I'm sure you will too OP! We requested close the elevator and that worked out nicely. Our view was woods...

I believe you can rent boats, as well. The bikes are both regular and surry (side-by-side). The path to FW is right at a mile long, and there is a nature trail that starts behind the bike shop, though it's more for walking or running than biking. Enjoy the serenity at VWL. ;)
