We have a room reserved in the main building for 12/10-12/16 but now I'm thinking about the 1 bedroom villa. It would be more convenient for us to make our own meals and be able to do laundry when needed. Any reviews for the 1 bedroom? Any problems or drawbacks I'm missing? TIA for any help!

Are you wanting to go through Disney or rent DVC points? The one bedrooms are amazing. If you look on youtube, there are several video tours of the one bedrooms.

We'd be getting the military discount so it would be cash. Thanks for recommending YouTube. I never thought of them for a review! I'll check it out!

We love the main building RPC but we now own DVC at the villas. Well...we are in love and spoiled with the one bedroom villa. We have not looked back. However, I do admit that I miss sitting at the club lounge listening to the music play. We can just sit downstairs and still enjoy it.

We've never stayed 1-bedroom at GFV, but have stayed in them at WLV, BCV and BWV. I LOVE them! Love the space, love the kitchen, love the w/d. If you can book it, do it.

I think getting a 1-bedroom is hard on a normal basis, I really don't think you will get one with a military discount. The VGF are usually never included in any discounts. Have you already checked?

I thought of that AFTER I posted my question! The military discount does exclude a few resorts and I'm not sure if GFV is one of them. I'm going to call Disney to make sure. If it is included, I'm booking. If it's not, I'm back to square one.

I have rarely seen these included with the military discount. I booked one once... in 2009. I'd be curious to know if others have booked them as well.

Considering that the Villas at Grand Floridian did not open until 2013, I find this hard to believe.

The one bedroom villas are very nice, but they would be almost impossible to get now for that time period as that is peak DVC season. However, if you could, I would try to get a 1-bedroom for that time since you can do laundry, you will be able to pack less. That time of the year you never know what the weather would be like, so you can bring more layers and wash what you need.

I finally got to talk to someone. I asked if the villas were included with the military discount and All she said was there are none available. I couldn't even change our concierge room for a regular outer bldg room because they are all booked. So, I left the ressie as is but will monitor for availability if someone cancels. I only have myself to blame for being too slow on the upswing! BUT, worse case scenario, we'll be at the GF during the most wonderful time of the year!!

The only "drawback" I suppose is that the villas are in a separate building with an outdoor--albeit covered--walkway to the main building and its amenities. For some, perhaps that would be an issue.

That said, the villas are terrific for all the reasons you describe and as described by others. Not unique to VGF, but the full kitchen means a real coffee pot; my fondest memories of our 2016 visit were sitting on the balcony with my morning cup or four, watching the boats on a glassy Bay Lake, and listening to (couldn't see it) the welcome song from MK because we just couldn't quite drag ourselves over for rope drop ... and had Fastpasses for later that morning anyway, so it really didn't matter.

Come on. Fantastic.
