villa safe?

To my knowledge the majority of villas do not have safe's. Ours certainly doesn't. We keep our passports tucked away at the back of a drawer in one of the bedrooms out of sight.

The security considerations in villas are not as great as in a Hotel. During your stay it is unlikely that there would be anyone other than yourselves in the villa - unlike cleaners coming and going in a Hotel. As long as you make sure that all the doors etc are locked when you are out then you shouldn't have any problems.

If you are still concerned, ask the agent you booked with if they have any available for hire - you never know.

I have to disagree. Most villa's that I know of have a safe as it's an important piece of villa kit. They are readily available for purchase at places like Home Depot. As an owner I feel it gives extra security to our guests.

The villas we have stayed in have never had safes. frankly i've never felt the need for one, I keep my passport at home and I don't have a safe!!
Most villas are very secure anyway, and I don't have a problem with leaving things in them. But i suppose you could probably hire a safe from the managing agents?:p

The villa I stayed in had a safe - it lived in the closet. The villa itself was also fully alarmed though so maybe they were just particularly security conscious.

When we have stayed in a villa it had a safe.

We also keep our passports at home in the UK in a safe.

We've just come back from Florida and our trip included a stay in a private villa which had a safe in the closet.

Only problem was that we couldn't find any instructions for setting the combination - mind you, the villa owners are German so if we'd found the instructions we wouldn't have understood them! ;).

I agree that the need for a safe doesn't feel as important in a villa as in a hotel, but we were still aware that there were several sets of keys for the place with agents, cleaners, etc. I have sometimes carried our passports around with us, but then I think they might be safer back at the villa!

Sorry - that probably doesn't help much!

We've just got back and our villa had a safe in the closet. We had to get the instructions from the management company if we wanted to use it and it also cost I think 5 dollars a day but not sure on that. I carried our passports with us, asked a couple of times for ID with traveller cheques and also buying beer, at 35 and losing my hair I nearly kissed them, shame he was 6'4 though!!!

Hilary we could have stayed in the same villa.!!!!!!!!!

The one we staye din last year , the safe was in the bed room closet & we couldn't findout how to work it.
I also think that the owners were German.

Not a lot of help to you Claire except to say we didn't miss having one & kept passports in a drawer a thief would never think of lokking in a bedromm drawer !!!!!!!!!!

We did take them with us when we went shopping & were asked for them twice when we paid with travel cheques. As far as I can remember we were never asked for them in Disney. But others here may help with this.
