Hi
We stayed at Southern Dunes in 2000 very nice place a very large WalMart at the entrance to Southern Dunes. You can walk from the villas and it is a 24hr one

Have never stayed there but have driven down from where we stay at Florida Pines to go to the Walmart.

If you fancy a change carry on down the 27 for about 6/7 miles and on the left hand side is a really good shopping mall called Eagle Pointe. Well worth a visit.

We always go there whenever we are over in Orlando.

Has all the big stores plus one or two other really nice independent ones.

We stayed in southern dunes on our last visit and it was probably one of the best places we have stayed. We found it really relaxing and very well landscaped. Although we had many! trips into walmart we used another supermarket next door to Southern Dunes which was really good for food shopping.

excellent - thanks for your replies. Nice to know about the Walmart as with 4 kids and 2 familys think we will be at the supermarket alot!!!

Cheers

We stayed there in Aug 2003.

The Wal Mart is very handy, and VERY big!!!

SD itself is lovely, and we had no problems. It depends on what you are expecting, but we found it to be too far from WDW.

It is a good 30 minute drive (in clear traffic) and that stopped us being able to take a break midday from the parks.

If closeness to WDW is not important for you, the development itself is lovely.

Cheers

Craig

We will be staying at Southern Dunes this year. My brother in law and his family have stayed there for the last 3 years, they love it and will be returning later this year. However, they are nervous as this is our first off-site trip and think that the 30 min drive will cheese us off as we have always raved about the WDW transportation. I think we'll be fine.
The following site doesn't give info on local shops etc but the golf course and clubhouse look inviting.
