I have a question, we are booking for our trip the end of the month. I was wondering if the 50 to 100 extra points for the better views is really worth it. I was going to book an Island view instead of an ocean or a pool view. I don’t know what there is to do. There would be just be sitting in the resort, relaxing? Are there outside places to sit throughout the evening? I’m just starting my research, any advice would be helpful.

So one thing to be aware of is that Aulani is a U shape and the pool is in the middle - when the pool is open, the noise echoes throughout all the rooms that overlook the pool. We had the misfortune to be right over the slides. If you are going for the soothing sound of the surf - even when the pool is closed the lagoon means there isn't alot of surf noise.

If you’ve been to Hawaii before, you should know that in many cases what Disney calls an Ocean View would be, at most other Hawaiian resorts, a partial ocean view. You can definitely see the ocean from the lanai. From the room it’s more hit and miss.

I think that the only direct oceanfront views at Aulani are the 3 bedroom villas. Others that are called ocean view are a sideways view of the ocean. I have stayed in ocean view on a high floor and loved the sideways view of the ocean and direct view of the pool areas. If you won't be visiting Aulani regularly and want your trip to be special then I think the extra points for ocean view are worth it. JMHO. If you will be visiting Aulani repeatedly over the years, then I think that island view is a good option. Many of the rooms (check the great thread that drusba linked above) have a partial ocean view and a nice view of the area where the luau takes place. You can watch the show from your lanai. Standard view rooms, especially studios, get booked very quickly, so if you don't own at Aulani they might not even be available at 7 months. I personally would not book a standard view room because some have views I would not want. But if you will only be using your room to shower and sleep then standard might be a good bargain option.
Whatever you decide, I think that you will love Aulani. I find that the cast members there are extra special--the best of any Disney property I have ever booked. They seem to go the extra mile to make Aulani feel like such a joyful resort. Good luck choosing! Yesterday I booked my Aulani room for Feb. 8 checkin. Can't wait.

Us personally prefer the Island view. Now if you ask to stay in the Ewa tower,,for studio ask for high ending in 3 or 9, for 1bdrm ask for high ending in 1 or 7,,7 is straight on view of the Luau, and also gives you a partial ocean view.
