I'm staying a couple nights in Dec. at the Dolphin. Have never stayed there before, so I'm excited to try it. I've booked a standard room, and my only other request was for an upper floor. Do any of the standard rooms have a nice view, or do most overlook the parking lot or something? Is there anything else I could request that might help me get a good view? If so, how would I do that? I made my ressie through Dreams Unlimited. Would I contact them, or call the Dolphin directly, or what?

I'm not hyper about this at all. But if I could possibly get a good view just by requesting a certain thing, then I'd give it a try.

Can any of you Dolphin veterans out there advise me? Thanks in advance! :D

Two days before leaving for orlando last month I booked a reservation at the Dolphin. When I called to make the reservation,I was quoted different rates for the different views(lake or resort view) and the standard rate. This was a spur of the moment trip that I decided to take with my mom and I had to stick to a certain budget, with this in mind I booked a standard room.As soon as I told the very helpful starwood employee that I was going to take the standard room, she said and I quote "But, this is a parking lot view" and I told her that I didn't care, since,I was staying at the dolphin . I also asked her to put in a request for a high floor, non smoking room. When I got to the Dolphin ,the very nice CM informed that I was assigned a great king room on the 15th floor and I told her that I was traveling with my mom and that we needed two doubles. She then offered me an upgrade to a balcony room for $30 which I gratefully denied and told her that I had a budget and wanted to stick to it, even though, that was a great offer and I felt very tempted.I guess she liked my honesty and told me she was going to find me a great room.I got 17105 with a wonderful view of Epcot and MGM.We practically ran to our room every night to watch Illuminations ,it was the perfect location. So, if you requested an upper floor you should be fine, just be friendly when you check in ;) . This was our first time at the Dolphin and we loved it.

Standard rooms usually have limited views - not great. Go to www.swandolphin.com and click on the reservation button. You will see a Special Request e mail to click on. Use this to e mail a request for a view. It may or may not work. Also, ask at check in. Good luck ;)

Thank you for the quick replies and great advice. It is all very helpful! I'll give it a try. If I wind up overlooking a parking lot, that will be fine too. After all, it will be a parking lot at Disney World! :teeth:

travelbug - my sentiments too! I have a standard room booked for the end of July at the Swan. If we get an upgrade - wonderful and if we don't - heck I'm In Disney World! :) :bounce:

Last summer, we stayed at the Dolphin and received a CL upgrade - how magical for us since we had never stayed CL before (too $$$). Our view, however, was "very limited" - I didn't care. We received CL as a comp (awesome) and we are rarely in our rooms to savor the view!

We also booked a standard view room in August. I want to get a room that was renovated which I think are only on the lower floors. Do you think I would be better off with a higher floor?
I think it was great that you were upgraded to CL - I'm sure that doesn't happen very often. I will also try to get an upgrade at check in - we are celebrating my son graduating from high school.
Did you ask at check in for CL or just for any upgrade?

When we checked in on May 26th, we were given an "Epcot view", after reserving a standard room. We didn't care, as we spend little time in our room. We took it because the desk clerk made such a big deal about the great view and how this was the most requested type of room.
But I thought it was funny when we arrived in the room (6001)and could barely see past the palm fronds right in front of our windows!!
