We will be staying at PO-R, but plan on visiting AKL for a look around the resort.

Being that we are Not Guests of the AKL, is it still possible to view the Savannahs? How much access to the Savannah are non-guests given? Are there any other interesting things to see as a non-guest at the resort?

You responses are appreciated!

There are quite a few excellent viewing areas located throughout the resort, and you will be able to view from all of them.

It really is an incredible resort. Enjoy!

The CM's are so wonderful, I'm sure if you asked for a map from guest services with the locations of the public viewing areas, they wouldn't mind.

We just got back in Dec, and I warn you...if you visit, you'll want to book your next vacation!!! It's wonderful.

Oh...I'm not sure, but there are times when the animals are not out for viewing. I'm sure someone on the board could tell you the times (which are infrequent) so you can plan your visit accordingly.

It seemed to be mid-morning? or early afternoon? Those savannahs have to be scooped occasionally!!

Definitely ask the CMs. There are many enjoyable spots and all are welcome to enjoy the viewing and things like the story hour around the fire pit.

Walk into the lobby and turn left, just after the check-in desk. There's a comfortable lounge area and you walk through that to get to a small balcony with viewing of one of the savannahs (?sunset).

Go straight through the lobby to the other side (massive glass windows ahead) and down the steps to get to the largest outside viewing area (arusha savannah). The fire pit and story hour are also there.

Go straight through the lobby and bear to the right -- there's exit doors to an outside deck with incredible large chairs (also arusha savannah).

You can also walk down the 2 wings of AKL and there are several large windows where you can look out at both savannahs. I think there's even a small outdoor viewing area, but can't quite recall.

There's some spot down by the pool, but can't remember that very well, either.

Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Great question WoG!!! We will be visiting AKL for breakfast at the end of our stay at POR. I was wondering if we could see the savannah. Thank you kda for the great directions. I can't believe our trip is less than 6 weeks away!

We were just at AKL over Christmas week and loved it. Two years ago when staying at Port Orleans, we drove over to AKL to check it out, and the guard at the gate was very nice as we drove in. He was extremely friendly and told us to go through the lobby to the outside and check out the rock. Of course, we had no idea at the time what he was talking about. After ooing and ahing over the lobby, we then walked outside, saw Arusha rock and viewed lots of animals. We also checked out the pool area, which also had several viewing areas. It is a great resort to explore. I would also suggest if you are visiting to try the Boma breakfast buffet. It is wonderful! This year we were fortunate enough to stay there, and it was heavenly. It is my absolutely favorite resort. Have fun on your visit!
